What do you think of people who do that?
Have you ever used 'I'm going to a funeral' as an excuse to get out of work or school?
What do you think of people who do that?
I haven't used that one yet. I usually stick to the old "I'm sick with the flu" for missing class or work. I think it's important for people to take a day off every now and then. I am one of those people who is in class everyday and has to answer 2 hours of emails every night. It's tiring chasing after people who are old enough to take care of things themselves. I know I am starting to feel burnt out from school and personal issues. I would love to go back to my parents house and just de-stress. But I have exams next week so I can't just leave all that behind.
So maybe in two weeks when I am still in class for stupid review classes, I will use the whole "I'm sick" excuse to get out of going and take a personal day for myself! :D
I think using the whole "I'm going to a funeral" is kind of extreme. Especially if you have a close knit group of people who might will start sending you flowers and cards.
Thanks for BA!
no I never have and hope I never will. I hate when people just call off thinking nothing of it...it happens where I work a lot and I get annoyed every time. I only call of when I am legitimately sick to where I can't function and yes I still go in if I have a cough/runny nose. being drunk is NOT an excuse for calling off, if you drank it last night you should be responsible and still come to work or quit.
i know I probably sound horrible but really its not fair, some people show up and do their job everyday and come on time and when you call off for a 'me' day those people have to pick up your slack and believe me they won't forget it...i haven't because it happens 2-3 times a week it seems like.
My sister would come up with wild stories to get out of going somewhere. Like when she claimed a ninja came and tried to attack her, so she nobly ran home. I on the other hand usually go for the truth, like 'hey, we both know I'm not sick, but I really need to get/stay home today'. Both tactics work about 50/50.
Nope. I don't make excuses. I have always shown up for work at every job I've ever been employed at. As for school, I skipped a number of times when it was required, but didn't make excuses for it. I just went. In high school usually it was for a party. We use to have skip day keg parties a few times a year at the beach. Grilling, drinking, music, girls in bikini's. Good times. =P
no, I just say I'm sick. why do I need to use an extreme excuse like that just to get out of school or work? f*** 'em, if I want a day off I'll take it.

Never. I'm afraid I'll get caught. Then it will be my funeral everyone would be attending!
Personally, if people do that it's wrong. Funerals can be sad and if you're telling someone you're sorry to hear about the death, wouldn't you feel bad you lied?
Not now but I used to all the time. I used to say that there were problems with my Grandma and I had to go out of town immediately... little did they know she passed away years ago so it was never bad karma.
No I haven't done that. Although I don't see it has that bad of a thing anyway. If someone used me as the person who died, I wouldn't be offended.
I'm opposed to lying at any level, though not averse to suffocating the odd terminally ill relative to create a window, so to speak.
No. I know a guy who did this to get out of work, and everyweek it seemed someone in his family had died. He had and still has such a reputation that he has to be taken at face value.
No. Because there's one funeral chapel in my city. If I lied, I'd be caught.
Nope. I haven't even heard of that. I just say that I feel sick & then I can stay! :)
I would never use the excuse that someone I know has died just to get off work. In my opinion, it's pathetic when people use that as an excuse.
I probably have for school, I'm not working an I'm going to one next week.
Just pull the sick line lol. Leave he funeral for a real one...
"I had/have an after-funeral party to attend"
Works if you wish to make your absence longer.
No. I don't think that's a right excuse.
Nope. Feels like bad karma to me.
Yep.
Three times total.
nope
Never done that.
