If the two of you are friends and hang out a lot together, then no. If he asked you to go to the movies with him, and it's not a group of friends going together, then yeah it's a date... I wouldn't say it's a good date, because you don't really have a chance to talk, but a lot of people do go to the movies for dates especially when they are young.

do you really think there is a definite answer to that question?! like given that information do you really think that the people of the internet can confidently say "yes, that's definitely a date" or "theres no way that's a date"

id say that yes, unless you have asked each other out with no interest in persuing a relationship in each other. Hoever I notice young guys don't want to accept its a date because they would be too embarrased if you said no, so they don't call it that way.

I would say yes. If it is just you and him especially. A rule of thumb is: If he pays, it is a date. If not, it is more of a hanging out together sort of thing. This isn't always true, but in general.

Possibly, it's whatever you both say it is, but if this isn't a guy friend/close guy friend then I'd definitely say a date.
