Bikinis are basic bra and panties worn outside the house. This creeps me out because I know of people that have been molested due to their inappropriate attire.

I don't consider this sheltering either. My daughter at 16 will be allowed to wear a midriff and jeans. Shorts of a realistic length and things of the like. Bikini is too adult. where do you deal the line with children's dress then? nowhere?

I disagree for a few reasons.

Number one, what makes the age of 16 so special? It's kind of like an 18 year old who turned 18 the day before having sex with a 17 year old whose birthday is the next day, I find the emphisis on a particular age in cases like this to be unrealistic and frankly, stupid.

Secondly, most females I know prefer a two-piece for comfort reasons. In fact one time one of my nine year old cousins asked me if I liked her new swimsuit which was a two piece, I said "sure" and asked if she still had the one piece she was wearing the year before and she said she didn't and that the one she was wearing was much more comfortable.

Thirdly, and this is going to be a very unpopular viewpoint, but I have a hard time seeing the point in "sheltering" children from sexual things. Now before you rip my head of hang on a second, I'm not suggesting deliberately exposing children to sex or sexual things in general, but I am saying that I see no reason in trying to hinder the natural development of interest in and discovery of sex. Sex is not a learned behavior, it is instinct and once a child gets old enough to start wondering, there isn't going to be anything stopping them from being exposed to it far earlier than most parents would like to admit.

How modest someone should be is a matter of opinion, nudist colonies have kids of all ages running around naked and they are in mixed gender company.

Teenagers are really sneaky, I've even heard of teenage girls buying clothes and keeping them at a friends house so they can wear something their parents "approve" of, then they go and change and the parents are none the wiser.

I feel it's more effective to tell a teenage girl that what she's wearing might get her attention she doesn't want.

I've been wearing two piece bathing suites since I was three years old and I see nothing wrong with it.

We're human beings. We are born naked, and in just the past couple thousand years did we start actually wearing clothing.

I see nothing wrong with people being able to see my stomach. It's my prerogative and I am grateful that my parents gave me the freedom to wear *almost* anything I wanted. And in all reality, my parents actually never had to tell me that what I was wearing was inappropriate. With the freedom to make my own choices, I learned how much was respectable and what I was comfortable with on my own.

I don't believe in conforming kids. I'm rather artistic, and I believe in self expression. The human body is a beautiful thing, and I don't think there's anything wrong with showing it off. It's a personal choice.

I don't think its an issue for a little girl to wear a bikini. If you see that on a child as being a bra and panties then I think that there's something wrong going on in your brain because on children you shouldn't even process it that way. They don't sell bikini's for little girls that are meant to look sexual in any way. They are simply just a bathing suit style that where I'm from, toddlers and little girls wear them and think that they look adorable. I don't think that its bad parenting to let your kid wear a cute bikini. It's another story if you're not at a pool/beach setting and let your child run around in a bikini.

I don't really see it as sexual or adult, provided it isn't skimpy. I remember one pieces could be tough to fit into, because when you grew taller, it gave you a major wedgie and also cut into your shoulders. A two piece would be more comfortable, provided it wasn't a "sexy" cut.

I think you're over exaggerating just a bit. That is their parents decision, not yours. When you have a child one day then you determine whether or not they'll wear a bikini or not. I think 10 may just be too little, but not a teenager 14+ it seems pretty fine.

If a girl decides to be away from the apron strings, a two piece is the proper feeling to understand what it's like to feel more of herself than of "Mom". She's going to get lots of looks anyway, especially after the age of 12. Hormones will kick in, probably around 13. Nothing wrong with helping to burn them off. The beaches are always jammed with every type of personality there is. Get used to it. If you want to really enjoy having no hangups, join a nudist resort family club where everyone is the same, except without clothing. Nothing to hide there. Makes for feeling more secure about onesself and easier to make friends, and even share ideas more without feeling constricted.

I disagree. A 14 or 15 year old could be as mature as an 18 year old. Teens mature and grow at different rates and those that are mature enough should be able to make their own decisions. They should be allowed to learn from their mistakes. If they feel uncomfortable being stared at, then they might not wear a bikini the next time.

Well, it's only "bad" because girls under 16 are still at risk of being sexualized by creeps. If the human body was seen as more neutral, if we were more comfortable with nudity, people could probably wear (or not wear) whatever they want.

I sort of agree with you. If the girl is in high school (which I think is 14 for most girls) then it might be OK. But today my aunt posted pictures of my 10 year old cousin in a bikini striking sexy poses at the beach and it kinda disgusts me.

I don't think this is an age thing. I think it's perfecty fine if even little kids wear bikinis. Some people are perverts and will look at it in a sexual way - which is completely wrong.

As long as EVERYTHING that NEEDS to be COVERED on a woman in public is covered and the girl isn't "showing herself off" (for sexual reasons) then it should be OK, but if she IS then no its not ok.

So girls should try not to wear bikinis around men because men can't control themselfs? What if it was the other way around? If old women couldn't control themselfes and therefor young guys would have to wear shirts or sweaters at the beach? You have no right to touch somewhone if they don't want you to touch them, no matter what clothes they wear.

I agree, you have no right to touch anyone else, but men do appreciate the help against temptation. You might think it's weak of us, but it's true. Men are weak creatures in the sexual nature and could really use the help. If it really was the other way around I would wear a shirt at the beach (and hm I do anyways). It's also a respect thing. Men will see you for the person you are when you dress modestly, rather than just how you dress.
