I looked at the medal tally and they're 62nd with other nations punching well above their weight putting them to shame. So what is wrong with India? Are they just too poor to train people? Bad genes? What is it?

Because Indian government doesn't pay much for sports except Cricket (relatively). I will use my father as an example here. My father was a national football player but he couldn't go for the international matches because he was not financially strong at that moment. Also, the government didn't sponsor player at that time. So, he had to leave football and go for 9 to 5 job. He is good at his job but you know he could have won a trophy for India.
Also, majority of parents don't really support their children for sports. They think that sports can't guarantee them a good living.
Too many people have been pressing those big red OFF buttons on their foreheads.
We don't have good infrastructure for sports. Parents here prioritize studies a lot and don't allow their children to pursue sports. We don't have a good sports culture here as in USA, Europe.
But in Cricket we are like the best in the world. And it's started becoming a curse than a boon because people are so crazy about cricket they have completely neglected all other sports. So if someone wants to go into sports he is advised to become cricketer as it has most money value.
So in short we are a country bad at sports and I don't it's going to improve anytime soon
Lol we can defeat them easily see in the next match 😉
You didn't defeat them easily in the last match. In fact, you didn't defeat them at all! You lost! A quick Google search also told me that was only in June.
A country with less than 10,000,000 people (maybe even less than 5,000,000 I'll have to check... yep, 4.9 million) where most people play rugby beat India, a country with over 1 billion people all crazy about cricket.
In the past, there have also been other countries which held number 1 spot like Australia and England. Both also having fractions of the population of England and other sports. Actually those two countries are good examples of what India should be like. They play almost all sports and you could say they do about what you would expect them to in terms of success compared to population. Something India is embarrassingly inept at and the reason eludes me.
Why are you so keen in trying to bring down India... man..
And You can match of England Vs India where we are beating them mercilessly.
Also there are many times we beaten Newzealand badly.
USA has so much money and big population then why are they so shit in soccer lol. Why are small European are dominating the sport.
If you use your mind you will understand it's not a numbers game haha.
I'm not keen on it, I'm just pointing out the facts. USA aren't good at soccer because they have enormous money sports like NFL, Baseball and Basketball. Even throw NHL into that. They're also big on things like wrestling and boxing. The Europeans mostly play football (soccer) with a couple of other countries like Croatia for example being big on water polo of all things. The British Countries like England and Scotland play football but also Rugby and England even had another version of Rugby which they compete in with Australia and New Zealand. Then Ireland has all that plus its own sport called Gaelic football. France and Italy also play the Rugby as a second tier sport after football. Then when you look at the populations of the bigger European countries like France, spain and Germany, they are the ones who do win the football World cup more, so it is a numbers game combined with variety of popular sports.
USA wins the basketball EVERY time at the Olympics. Because they are the country which plays it the most and has the most prestigious league. This is what India is to cricket. Not only that, but they have a massively bigger population than USA and less variety of sports. India should be indestructible at cricket but they're not. They aren't even number 1 in the world.
All those big sports that USA plays are either played in USA alone or has no other international competition like American football or Basketball
Basketball has huge international competition. Much more than cricket does.
And this illustrates my point. International competition or not, the money in NFL for example is almost on par with association football. Yet they remain competitive in other sports even with such a big investment in domestic competition. Whereas India which in fairness does play other things but nowhere near the level they play cricket, isn't even number one at it in spite of having the second biggest population in the entire world.
To me, that shows that there is something wrong with the way the country and the culture is structured rather than the ability of the people.
Dude don't you have 10 times the money we have so of course USA can afford spending so much on domestic sports and still investing so much for Olympics and other competitions.
All sports budget here is spent on cricket and because of that other sports are suffering.
And we were number for whole of last year just a while ago we have slipped so don't act cocky
And I already said sports culture here is bad because kids are being pushed into academics. So yeah you structure and culture needs to improve. But I had already said that in the start if you had read carefully
Yeah fuck off
Every culture is a failure even your beloved American culture
Spelling. B Competitions should be in the Olympics

Agree, population and number of medals are related. I don't know about India tbh but there is one thing I do know. Countries that don't give importance to sports and don't encourage children and young people to sports cannot be successful.
Probably because there's no facilities to train. Sports requires leisure time. Most indians don't appear to have any leisure time.
Lol maybe they don’t really care about the Olympic Games.
India does win Olympic metals but not near as many as their population would indicate they should win. Why they don't win many more is a good question. Partly perhaps because they are short. However, that should help them win is sports such as gymnastics and perhaps diving and ice skating.
bad economy
lack of interes in moust of the olimpic sports
poverty and a bad selection sistem acros theyr nation
imigration
If pep dont like somethong why think or talk about it? If I don't like something I dont bother with it. Change the dam channel if you dont like something.
Yes, I notice too that indians do not have any olympic medals. Probably due to the fact that they don't dedicate adequate budget to sports
Really hard to recognise the talent from 140 crore people
Probably to do with money and training
All their guys are on here, perving on us girls
I couldn't agree more 😆
Sports aren't a priority to them
I dont watch, so there so I dont care
