if it is about fame...

then it would be Cristiano Ronaldo, not only soccer is way more popular as a sport around the world

but he's also a modern star and currently active in the era of internet fame and reach, lol

True but mj was also known worldwide plus he’s got that iconic shoe brand

soccer can be so popular that even regions in conflict sometimes have stopped wars... just so famous soccer players can go visit... lol

If you go and watch the jordan doc in 1998 he couldn’t go anywhere regardless of the country he was in without being swarmed by thousands of players plus he’s the richest athlete by far

I feel like it's different for Americans though, they seem to favour basketball and American football more whilst most of everyone else in the world follows football

Depends on the country, but the first athlete I think of, when thinking of sports, is Michael Jordan or Lebron James. I think Europeans might say the soccer dude; Ronaldo. I barely even know who he is, and wouldn't be able to recognize him from Posh Spice's husband (Beckham) or the third soccer dude (Messy).
