The most famous olympian is going to depend on the era more than whom people may think is the most famous. Many dynamics involved in this. For example: in my era (70's and such) there were Mark Spitz who hit 7 Olympic Golds in 1972, just recently surpassed by Michael Phelps. But how many still remember him besides old dudes like me? There was Jesse Owens who crushed the Nazi beliefs of 1936. There was JimThorpe, one of the greatest athletes in America relegated to a footnote in history. And can you forget Simone Biles and all the controversy surrounding her in the current Olympics? There are many great Olympic athletes-American and foreign-

Usain Bolt. Not only did he win a pile of medals (mostly gold) , he shattered world record's in each event. I mean, I doubt anyone will run quicker than 9.58sec over 100M anytime soon.
His minor medals came either in a relay or at the end of his career. For me, it's not an individual Olympian, but the 1984 men's ice hockey team. One of the greatest moments in sports when they upset the Soviets for the gold.
Twenty-eight medals in total, with twenty-three of those being gold. He owns a lot of records. Yeah there's no question that Phelps has to be the most famous I think.

I think it would have to be Usain Bolt...
because he was way more charismatic and had a lot more endorsements that went world wide He's certainly the most notable recent Olympian, but I think the most accolades should go to Jesse Owens. If you don't know who he was or what he did and when, please do yourself a favor and look him up. The story is astonishing.
Bella I agree with you that Michael Phelps is probably the most famous Olympian, at least in recent times.

😀🙋ββοΈIn america yah. its all relative beebella. you have to think outside the box.
I think maybe he might be. He did use to win medals as frequently as I poured out a bowl of cereal.
Jesse Owens is the first Olympian name that comes to my mind.
I believe it one time he's probably Bruce Jenner but now probably Michael Phelps
Obviously Zeus. Many other lesser gods also lived in Olympus.
Could be phelps but gotta remember jordan was also an olympian and i think kinda more popular
iβll always have the image of michael phelps doing a bong hit in my memory forever 😂
If you're talking about the most famous person to win a medal, probably Muhammed Ali
Yeah him and Usain Bolt are the ones that come to mind
Itβs not just Michael Phelps. I was also thinking Gabby Douglas.
I mean Jess Ennis is the fittest in my eyes, but hey each to there own! lol
