In the memory of the legend Diego Maradona

I'm very happy for Messi, because I know what it's like to want something so badly and finally get it! What a way to retire! He worked hard for it and truly earned it. The Copa America, di Maria got him the trophy, but this one he truly earned. I always root for Argentina and I was sick and tired of European teams winning the last 4 consecutive World Cups. But I was very disappointed with the behavior of the so called "French" team after the match. TRUE French people are polite and humble, but the "French" players were acting so arrogant after the match. I know some people will say that Messi was acting the same after losing to Germany, and I was quick to call hm out on it, but he didn't have a title yet so it's excusable. France already won a title in Russia, so what more do they want? What's with the greed? Plus it's hard to feel bad for their coach when he took their two best players off. This so called "French" team should be ashamed of their arrogance, especially Mbappe handling his Golden Boot like that.
@Nomina Yeah, I would've expected that from a team like Uruguay or Mexico, but certainly not France. Mbappe wouldn't even look Macron in the eye, and the French people always treated him like a national hero! He should be most ashamed, especially after winning the Golden Boot. Giroud I can still excuse because coach took him off the field, but Mbappe? Shame on him! The Golden Boot wasn't enough?
I agree, they do not have the sport spirit...
@KostasKouvalis
I am sensing a bit a racism here...
@abc3643 Why? Because I think the FRENCH team should consist of players who are actually FRENCH! It would be just as awkward seeing a group of Crackers playing for the Ghana team. A country's sport's team should represent the country's demographics. That looked more like a South African squad. Do White people in France not do sport?
Yeah, well, you're not a real American, don't you know that?
Let's see how your racist logic affects you...
You're Greek, not an "American". A real American, like me, is descended from Native Americans and Western Europeans... you know, the Spanish, French, Dutch, Swedish, and English - those who colonized America.
So, just make sure you don't play on the US Men's National Soccer Team since you are not a real American.
By the way, "France" is all over the world. If you understood that about France, you'd think twice about what "France" is. Did you know that part of France is in North America? For instance, Google "Saint Pierre and Miquelon", "Wallis and Fortuna", and "Guadaloupe".
Meanwhile, you wrote:
"@abc3643 Why? Because I think the FRENCH team should consist of players who are actually FRENCH!"
Well, let's take a look at the 18 players who played for France in the Final and find out who is not French...

Eduardo Camavinga, born in Cabinda, Angola, lived in France since the age of 2. Naturalized French citizen.
Kingsley Coman, born in Paris, France
Ousmane DembƩlƩ, born in Vernon, France
Axel Disasi, born in Gonesse, France
Youssouf Fofana, born in Paris, France
Olivier Giroud, ChambƩry, France
Antoine Griezmann, born in MĆ¢con, France
ThƩo Hernandez, born in Marseille, France
Ibrahima KonatƩ, born in Paris, France
Jules KoundƩ, born in Paris, France
Hugo Lloris, born in Nice, France
Kylian MbappƩ, born in Paris, France
Randal Kolo Muani, born in Bondy, France
Adrien Rabiot, born in Saint-Maurice, France
AurƩlien TchouamƩni, born in Rouen, France
Marcus Thuram, born in Parma, Italy while his father, Lilian Thurman, played soccer there. Lilian Thurman was born in Guadaloupe, France.
Dayot Upamecano, born in Ćvreux, France
Raphaƫl Varane, born in Lille, France
Ummm... They're ALL French!
So, what makes players like MbappƩ not "French"? Is it because they don't look like "real French" just like you don't look like "real American"?
You know, when I was about 13, the first people I knew who were immigrants were the young Greek family that moved down the block from me. They had two little boys who'd be in their early 50s now (one just died from cancer about 2 or 3 years ago).
They were good kids but definitely "not American" as I was accustomed to since they didn't look like me and my friends, they had weird names unlike me and my friends, celebrated a different Christmas unlike me and my friends, and their English was not as good as that of me and my friends.
Today, those kids are as American as baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet.
It was because of them that I learned to recognize the wonder of America and of immigration and how people from all over the world contribute to the human experience, in particular here in America and in places like France since modern France was designed with American ideals.
Despite some Americans having provincial racism and other bigotries due to ignorance, immigrants and the American ideal of being a nation of laws and not men makes America a fascinating place. And something we should learn from being Americans - all ethnicities including Greek Americans - is that it teaches us that people just want to people and to live in peace and harmony without fear and that we should be united for each other regardless of our backgrounds.
So, the non-White French are every bit French despite not looking the part of being "actual French".
Just like as you and your Greek family members are every bit American despite not looking the part of being "actual American".
I literally stated being born in France doesn't mean you're ethnically French, so why are you even mentioning their overseas departments and territories?
@Nomina I stopped giving a shit because EVERYTHING is racist now. Even Shark Week is racist because it has too many White scientists named Mike. These people live in their own little delusions, but I'm gonna stand by what I say and won't apologize for my views.
absolute bliss... really happy for them, especially Messi and Di María which are the only ones standing from the previous generation, and nobody else more deserving than the two of them
and not only they won it but also in the most remarkable fashion as well... fought till the very end and with everything they got and then some more
definitely, a one for the ages
also great for the game, football wins with this win... it is also a win for the spirit of the game
and then, Mbappé... what a monster he could become, very promising future
100% agree š
definitely a nerve wrecking rollercoaster of a game lmao...
and yes, as soon/around the time Di MarĆa was off the field I think... the tides started to turn and what a way to do so, lol
but that's what you can get with this game... so much feelings invested and involved
I also walked away and back, and around the screens a few times... a superstitious one I am, lmao
Haha! You know what? At one point I thought I had to leave because the more focused I was on the game - I was setting up my parents' Christmas tree at the same time - the worse Argentina got. So I thought maybe if I leave they'll play better again š¤£
It's amazing in terms of the emotions. You could hear neighbors and the neighborhood bar. It was fun.
@Nomina lmfao... yes
that's exactly how I feel sometimes...
also "if I leave the room and stop watching, they might score again while I'm gone... just like it happened that time in 2008" lmfao...
@Nomina well... that's just soccer, never liked it and I actually hate it but I am used to it
unfortunately, it is a part of the game that will never go away entirely, lol
some players are still going to try and dive, or burn time on the clock, try to get cards and all that... probably both sides did it too, lol
@Nomina I sure remember France trying to get the fourth with a dive... lmao
even got a yellow card
Happy for Argentina since this could be Messi last WC before his retirement, but I do feel that the media overly favor him for some reasons. There are always positive things being portrayed about him unlike CR7, where a lot of BS have been spread about his life whether his career or personal things he does. Mbappe played for France when they won 4 years ago but he didnāt get much coverage on it which is unfair because he was just 19 that time and seems like the media doesnāt want people to know more about him.
Tnx for sharing
they worked hard for it, and they kind of earned it being that they haven't won a world cup since 1986, I was rooting for France though, but Argentina was highly impressive nonetheless, it was an epic Final, I hope Croatia can snag a win in a world cup final one day,
Tnx for sharing

That final was the most stressful, exhilarating, and chaotic football match I've ever seen in my entire life. So glad I was able to witness it. France did amazing coming back from 2-0 down, but props to Argentina for keeping their cool and winning the penalties. I don't think Messi could have asked for a better send-off. Congrats Argentina
True!
I'm very happy!
It was touch and go for a while there. But man... the relief in the end.
At one point my mom left because she couldn't take the stress, lol. She told me to give her the score when it was all done.
Very true it was so close š
ššš»
Mine too, and she's not even a football fan. LOL
I didnāt get to actually watch the 2nd half cause I leave during halftime to go to work but I was keeping myself updated. Havenāt been this excited since the last time 2 NBA teams from California won an NBA Championship. Congratulations Argentina
Tnx for sharing
I was over the moon!
It was well deserved. One of the best world cup finals we've ever witnessed.
And I'm glad that Messi got his world cup before retiring.
The man has won everything now
And I'm looking forward to watching Mbappe do the same in years to come š
INSANE talent.
Agreed!
@Messiking It looks like it! He's already the highest paid footballer in the world at 23 years old.
Ya very tense! 3-2 then last minutes suddenly a penalty, 3-3 craaaaaaazy ya? Messi's slow penalty. Goalie has just so much pressure on his shoulders that these slow shots go in. Good match! Century material!
Tnx for sharing
Ya tnx for posting!
You're welcome
I would have been happy with either team. It's nice to see Messi get his final biggest prize so he can retire as "the greatest".
True!
@Julie4 demoiselle julie, pour mois les francais sont francais n' importe quel couleur ou religion ils sont...
Si nous voulons savoir nos origines, ca ve dire wue nous sommes tous des Africains car les origines des humains a commencer dans cette region š
@Julie4 Exactly.
Like this American who, when I called out his racism in this question, blocked me.

I didn't hear or read much fanfare here where I'm from. Oh well. I'm surprised, I said France. But my gut was leaning Argentina after I'd said it. Lol. Oh well. Regardless, all my faves got knocked out anyway before the finals, so, shrugs. 🥴
Same happened with me, as for a whole team i like Brazil
I'm a CR7 fan but watching Messi winning the final made me extremely happy for him, he really deserve it and at least one of the GOATs won the world cup, i wanted Argentina to win it for real, it was the best final in the history, despite your Favorite player it's normal to feel good for Messi.
I was rooting for them. They did a great job. What a great World Cup final. They said on TV the best ever.
ššš»
As Italian there is a friendship with Argentina, because they are half Italians and huge rivalry with France since first match Italy-France (6-2) in 1910. So I am more glad that France lose world championship, than Argentina won it.
Tnx for sharing
Was inevitable. They wanted it more, as they have most players we will not see next world cup.
France of course still has plenty of talent and will continue to be a force.
Awesome game!! We were on the edge of our seats or up cheering the whole time. Great time with family and friends.
Did you watch it live?

Only fair to congratulate the winners
So my team is Brazil but I was rooting for Argentina in the final and I am actually excited
Me too the same š
STEAL NO? ROBOCOP🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

QATAR 🇶🇦 THIS TIME YOU SHIT IN THE MOTHER OF FOOTBALL
WE LAUGH NOT TO CRY
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Absolutely ridiculous final, and absolutely ridiculous world cup. France and Argentina were the two teams most favored by the referee but Argentina was favored until the final match, everything was done so that Messi wins the world cup.
But there will always be only one King of soccer and his name is Pele.
I agree about the pele part
They didn't deserve it. They played so bad, so dirty. Falling every minute acting like they're hurt and playing too aggressive the entire time. Reminded me of the Italians. Annoying, I never knew they played that bad until now. A lot of other teams played bad like that too like Canada and Uruguay just to name a few. France won last year so I guess they shouldn't win this time.
Last time* not last year.
Too many observations but in the end they won
he got a bit aggogant but I'm glad he got it. Although I found that the win wasn't well deserved. They played as good as the French (wo had an amazing comeback in the second half) and it ended in 3:3 Only those stupid penalties made them win. Messi wasn't much better than Mbappé in that match.
Tnx for sharing
to be fair... Messi had to redo himself and play at a very differently game than his usual, and away from his usual position
if someone else in soccer had to do that, not many would even try in the first place, so...
if you're not able to recognize such feat then you've not watched enough soccer to appreciate this
MbappƩ was just being and doing his usual... and he only managed to do it till Argentina decided that they would give him room to try something
Messi did something than just better, he became an entirely different player for an entirely different team... remember that only Messi and DI MarĆa are the ones remaining for the former Argentina, the rest are just a bunch of "kids" that played their first World Cup... lol
while MbappƩ could not actually inspire nor lead a team that was already a great team and had a lot more potential but well... they were tamed for an entire 70 minutes... but did something stupidly incredible in just 20, and that is still quite remarkable
@NathanDavis thanks for sharing and i agree
Great match, was the best World Cup final I've ever seen. I was worried either Messi or Mbappe would "go missing", but nope, they both turned on the magic.
It was exciting and finally Leo got the attention he deserved.
He achieved everything a footballer could ever imagine of achieving.
Congrats Messi
Iām not a football fan to be honest and watching people going crazy over it around the world was very disturbing. In the end congrats to them i guess they earned it.
Just cheering them up and turning the negative vibes in the house into positive one š
I'm happy for Messi, but if there's one modeen team that at least on paper are good enough to retain it, it's France.
That's it really.
Why do Argentines smile when thereās lightning? They think God is taking their picture lol. A joke I heard from a Mexican friend that has some truth to it. Not sure what it has to do with the World Cup, but there it is anyway.
I'm happy for them, they deserved the win. Messi may have got them to the final but on the day it was a great team performance.
And my draw bet paid off at the end of 90 mins. so that was nice too!
Eh.. good for them I guess, I'm not super into sports
good to see Messi succeed, and win some goals to boot. Good for Argentina!
What no riot at the games this year? Well, guess it saved a lot of lives.
We should thank Qatar for that.
They brought order to this world cup
@Anjoomkabir It's about time someone did. It was beginning to become a tradition.
And it's always the usual culprits
The English and Irish fans š¤Ŗ
@Anjoomkabir Blast the Blimies
Very happy for Messi. Congratulations to them.
Tnx for sharing

Very Happy for Messi he truly deserves it
I'm very happy for Messi and Argentina 🇦🇷 It's Lionel's swan song plus he goes out a winner 🏆
About time... Messi deserves it.
True šš»
Probably the best World Cup final ever, simply phenomenal. Had absolutely everything, just beautiful. Congrats to Messi and Argentina
I really enjoyed watching the World Cup and I was very happy for Messi, and Argentina. But I'm glad league play will start soon. :)
I'm thrilled for Messi and Argentina. Most of all, just glad it wasn't France.
Argentina 🇦🇷 deserved the cup, they played good football.
Incredible and finally very emotional!!! Could not stop crying of happiness⦠it was bittersweet.
I was so happy, Messi deserves it
šš»šš»
It's cool I guess i am not really a fan of football
Tnx for sharing
I could not possibly care less. Especially not about soccer!
was that the kick ball tourny that was going on?
Isn't that where they try to kick a small ball into a net that is larger than a garage door?
I have no reaction. It doesn't mean anything to me.
Loved it! It was the best match in the history of FIFA Final. And it's proved as well.
I'm happy they won. I didn't want to see France repeat.
Well deserve.. Not surprised
I thought Messi announced he was gonna retire like half a year ago?
Its like Alien vs predator. Whoever wins, humanity looses to slave labor behind the scenes of building these stadiums.
Congratulations to Argentina for beating Africa..
Couldnāt care less, Iāve tried watching soccer but just do not find it entertaining
Argentina? I forgot that was even a country? What a horrible outcome. Man, no wonder I hate soccer. I don't even care about the World Cup and I still think that was a lame result.
Why is that? Also why have you forgot that Argentina is a country...
Politics is a thing and sports is another thing...
Very happy for Messi!
One of the worst world cup till date - felt more like a donation then a team deserving to win.
not happy lol. i'm french so.. 😭😭
Haha, well at least they got the 2nd place...
You've already won a world cup! š
Time to share the glory
messi's kiddies are so cuuuute
In the grand scheme of things this means absolutely nothing
Well deserved. It was such a good game.
They did? Didn't notice nor care lol
Good for them i guess?
I was happy they won.
the best team on the day to win
not surprised but i dont really care that muchh
