Nursing in Pro Sports?

Are there any opportunities in pro sports for nurses or nursing students? I'm a year away from getting my BSN in nursing and started to question if there's any other specialty I want to get into before I settle with neonatal. So, are there any career opportunities for nurses in pro sports? I specifically want to know about the NHL. I know most teams have an athletic trainer and a doctor but is there anything for nurses? Maybe any internships?

There possibly could be but that would have to be a major sport that could afford additional staff like that - such as a back-up in case the team doctor is out.

However, a trainer or team doctor is the usual position.

Internships are a very good idea!

I'm over in Florida. Been really hoping to get experience working with the Florida Panthers after having worked food service for the arena back in high school.

I expect that they can create an internship for you if you wish. Reach out to the team trainer or doctor about this. Since internships are generally unpaid, this should not be a problem ALTHOUGH the NHL season is ending, so any services you could render may not be needed until the fall.

Yeah, I'll have to attempt it in the fall. I'm gonna do some digging around and see if I can get in contact with someone for the team or maybe see if my school might work with them.

You need to act on this now and not wait until the fall because they'd still want to interview you and give you some kind of orientation.

Yeah, I'm sure they would. I recently asked a few contacts about it and learned about the RN to paramedic bridge programs that would give me a better opportunity to try for an internship. I learned that becoming a Nurse paramedic would definitely give me a foot in the door. I also was told that I could ask for internships or externships after i become a nurse extern but i have to wait until my next semester to get that opportunity.

what your occupation is doesn't matter. what matters for pro sports is your sport performance xD

if you wanna be a "pro" in a sport, you gotta deliver "pro performance" what you do as a job or what education you have doesn't matter.

i'm not trying to be a "pro", you miss read the post. I wanted to know how to WORK FOR a pro sports organization, as in on the athletic trainer's team.

Ah my bad. Yes in that case you'd have to be very good at your job and also have the right connections and be really lucky on top xD it's kind of a gamble to take.

I guess if you wanna end there, you may wanna stack as much extra qualifications on your resume as you possibly can

maybe ease into it by applying to like specialty gyms for athletes. they usually do hire some medical staff. or maybe just try to get an apprenticeship there working for free as a side hustle. try to build connections from there.

i think adding physiotherapeutic stuff to your skill set will greatly help. I don't know how much of that you do in nursing anyway.

Unfortunately, right now I'm not yet in the nursing semester where i can get hired to do extern work but I'm get there eventually. Right now, I have a good connection with a hiring director at one hospital i've done clinical at.

I'm definitely gonna research that, my school has a great program. Right now, I'm planning on taking a few classes and then taking the paramedic exam after i take my nursing exam
