Would you be able to catch a fish with your bare hands? If so how easy do you think it would be to do so?

Here I am talking about a situation in which you'd be forced to fend for yourself in the wild and catch fish without a fishing rod from the waters of a lake or river. The questions I ask are meant to turn on your imagination so don't take it too seriously and give an answer without thinking too hard about it.

I caught monster catfish out of the Arkansas river when I was a kid visiting my uncle's family there. I have pictures somewhere. The catfish were about 14" wide at the head and about 2.5 feet long.

They had spots where they had boxes down in the water, and catfish would swim in and hang out waiting for food, and you would essentially use your hands to pretend to be food and wait for the catfish to "eat" your hand, and then pull it up out of the water. It's a whole way of life there.

I went on a canoe trip on the Arkansas River and caught trout with my bare hands. We had them for dinner. It was pretty cool.

Catching Using hands is dumb, Humans did not evolve like that, Use physics to my advantage..

1) Build a projectile weapon, from throwing a stick to throwing a spear, anything long sharp that can pierce the fish 🐠 and make it incapable of swimming. In wild there is always sticks and branches..

2) First I would walk and find shallow and deep end of the lake/pond in which fishes are there. Then I will Throw Rocks into Deep end of Lake Forcing the Fishes to Scared and come into shallow end.

3) Then I will load my spear, and stand still into the shallow end and make sure that my aim counts..

4) I will tie my spear or sticks back end to a rope or a wild Vine. To help me retrieve after a failed shot so I don't have to walk in Lake.

Alternative way

If I have to survive many days..+1 week.. I will try collecting Wild berries, stand in shallow water and feed fishes berries with my hands, this way fishes will learn that if you want berries, then they need to trust me and come near me..

After 3-4 days fishes will get trained into coming to me,.. I will hold one out , than put it back in, slowly they will think, it's safe to let me hold them.

After a while, I will daily take one Fish from it, without them noticing, take one Fish and at the same time, drop all the Edible food to distract them.. a symbiotic Relationship.

Poachers in the UK have been known to tickle trout. You move your hand along river beds wriggling your fingers as if they were a piece of loose weed as you stroke your trout then grab it.

Here in Wales you'll occasionally see men trying to catch flounder in estuaries with their feet and a garden fork. Declining stocks means it's largely died out but old people will boast they caught hundreds back in the day.

Masses of small fish often get beached here when the mackerel or dolphins are feeding and locals will grab them to fry as white bait. If the mackerel are bunched up tight you can grab them too. I've rescued smoothhounds by hand caught in rock pools by the falling tide.

It's not too terribly hard to do.

I'm not a catfish noodler, though that might be exhilarating to do.
It is certainly exhilarating to me to watch certain people doing so.

Maybe salmon when they return to spawn. The only fish I've seen in any degree of density (fresh water) are salmon, including steelhead, and trout. A single fish would be way to fast unless its in a school -or, as in case of salmon exhausted from swimming upstream to spawn. I think I could probably survive for a while if enough herbal stuff stuff was available. I'm best at eating pussy and it seems to be more available the more I eat it.

I've seen Alabama girls doing it... and I've seen how they do it with bare hands, I think it was catfish, so yeah... it is plausible enough, lol

Nope they are pretty slippery, I touched the fish at a Chinese restaurant before, the ones they have swimming in a fountain and they are slippery so I can't imagine in water I can see through, which is most bodies of water.
