I started skiing late in my teens so Im not very good at it.
I would like to learn snowboarding but the idea of falling on my face all over again trying to learn is not so tempting

Last year I almost dislocated my shoulder from a skiing accident

  As someone who tried both ski and snowboard (ski at the age of 4, snowboard in my early 20s), I'd say that it takes longer to learn to ski at an acceptable level than it takes to learn snowboard at an acceptable level.
  
  Granted, the first day or two, you'll be more on your knees or with your face in the snow than upright when learning snowboard. The learning curve is steeper at the beginning, but once you know how to keep upright, progress is much faster than ski.

I started skiing when I was 4.
I tried monoski, which is about the same as tying you skis together with a rope and throwing away the sticks. Scary as hell. I'm more into snowboard now.

I downhill skied a lot and liked it, but never snow boarded. I'm sure I could have mastered it quickly since I had been a surfer and skateboarder.
