I never understood it. Burning their jersey? WTF? You know how much that cost? They're STILL the same player that you loved they're just on a DIFFERENT team and made a often very lucrative choice for their future and family to move on. It's NOT 🚫 personal, it's business!!

Granted, there are circumstances when they give a big FUCK YOU at the end of their contract (Lookin at you Pajama Boy John Tavares going from the Islanders to the Habs and refusing to be a rental so we could get some value for your underwhelming ass). But often that's NOT the case.

I mean, getting big mad about sports someone else is playing, to that level, seems more and more foolish with every year I live.

I’m also a Boston sports fan, so my complacency levels are off the charts, we’ve been so unbelievably spoiled the last 25 years, with some absolutely crushing defeats mixed in, but there’s just been so much winning, it’s all drowned out.

The David Tyree Helmet Catch, the Aaron Boone Game 7 ALCS-winning home run, Kendrick Perkins blowing his ACL in Game 6 of The Finals and losing Game 7 to the hated Lakers…the Bruins failures maybe sting the most, Seguin no-showing against Chicago in the Cup Final, dropping Game 7 of the Final in our own barn to St. Louis, winning the President’s Cup and then choking in the first round against Florida, sending Patrice Bergeron into retirement the worst way…. all of these things should be devastating to me, but I’ve just got too much else to celebrate to be really affected by them other than in the immediate aftermath.

In more pathetic times in my city’s sports history, we rooted on Ray Bourque leaving for Colorado in pursuit of a Stanley Cup, even threw him a damn parade when he accomplished it. We were mad at the Bruins ownership and management, not Ray.

Tom Brady is probably our best example. We have fans here who were in it for Brady. There were people walking around in Buccaneers gear here all of a sudden. I was not one of them. I didn’t burn a jersey. I didn’t even really badmouth him. But I just looked at it as a dose of reality. Tom Brady doesn’t know us. He’s doing what he’s doing for the greater glory of Thomas Edward Patrick Brady, not the fans. He made a business decision, it is what it is, I appreciate all the great years and all he did for us here, but I’m not going to hold the guy in any fanatic level of regard. And I’m sure as shit not gonna get a divorce and then stand outside her bedroom cheering she and her new boyfriend on. I wish you well, but that ain’t my team. People were celebrating around here when he won a Super Bowl in Tampa…. for what? Good for him, but that’s not our championship. I was a Pats fan when they had Steve Grogan and Tony Eason, Brady was just the next guy at QB. And thanks for the memories, credit where due.

Kyrie Irving is the only recent guy I can think of who shot his way out of town. And Kyrie is a weirdo, lmao, so I don’t pay him much mind. I guess you never like it when someone goes to a rival team. Yankees, NY Jets, Canadiens, Lakers…those are the big no-no’s for me.

I can’t imagine burning a jersey. It’s kind of a look-at-me move. No one ever burns a jersey alone and doesn’t tell anyone about it🙄😂
