It's not that they are counting errors. The official scorer's rule of an error affects the batter's batting average. If an error wasn't called, the batter's average would go up, which would not be legitimate when comparing players from the count-the-errors era.
Many players have perks written into the contracts, for example, an extra $100K if they win Golden Glove, which is determined by the fewest errors per position. If you don't count errors, those contract perks can't happen.
EXACTLY!! It only benefits management not labor!!
I think the pitchers care more about this than the fielders so it doesn't hurt their ERA
I have literally never thought about this, but Athletic Chloe makes some good points
I hate to admit it he she did. 🤔🤬
Errors in baseball are a critical component of the game's statistical analysis. They help evaluate a player's defensive skills, providing insight into their ability to field cleanly and make accurate throws. Errors contribute to team strategy and decisions during games, as they can change the outcome by allowing runners to advance. While they might seem insignificant, errors influence player assessments and can impact contract negotiations, reflecting a player's defensive value.
