Have you lost interest in sports as an adult, and if so, why?

I grew up playing and watching sports and I liked it a lot especially professional sports but in recent years I find myself not caring at all about sports.

I think now its boring and ridiculous to see grown men playing with a ball, besides adult athletes, at least most of them just come off as extremely immature kids to me.

I might watch it on TV if I have nothing else more interesting to do but I'm no longer watching no damn games for hours everyday like I used to do.

My dad and grandfather took me to my first major league baseball game to see the Dodgers in 1962, the year they moved into Dodger Stadium, when I was 8. I saw both Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale pitch. Maury Wills, Willy and Tommy Davis were also in the line up. I loved it.

I went to quite a few Dodgers games over the years and into my 30s.

I also started playing park league baseball that year. I was a really good outfielder but became the first string first baseman every year until I aged out at age 13. I also had a great batting average even though I wasn't a power hitter.

I played a lot of baseball, football and basketball with friends.

I watched Wide World of Sports every week on TV and really enjoyed the variety.
I watched the Olympics when they were on.

I was on the school basketball team in 7th and 8th grades.
I switched schools in 9th grade and played on their tennis team.
I went to a different school for high school (10th-12th grades) but didn't play any organized sports. I did continued to play baseball, football and basketball with friends and LOTs of Frizbee.
I started surfing when I was 15 and continued to surf. I also went snow skiing in the mountains in the winter.

I continued enjoying watching sports on TV with my friends and partying. There were some big Superbowl parties, too.

In my early 30s, a friend and his brother bought 4 season tickets to the Anaheim Angels for a few years and I went with them quite a bit.

I went to a few stock car and drag races over the years.

I became excellent at target and trap shooting.

So, I always enjoyed sports. But when my job started taking up more of my time and many of my friends got busy with their own lives, I watched sports less and less. I stopped following players and stats.

My wife and I moved into our new house in 2002 and got wifi but opted not to subscribe to any TV. So the only time I have watched sports in the past 24 years has been when I see clips on line or when I go out to eat somewhere that has sports on a big-screen TV.

I still like watching sports... all kinds of sports, but it's not important to me.

I was a decent State level junior golder , it was my life , every day back then , I kept going for 20 odd , was an AFL player at local level , crazy white line fever ( idiot ) frankly..
I don't really like how either sport has gone , still watch AFL but my goal now is to not get too involved emotionally , with golf I'm interested in the majors , but the game is ludicrous now , can't relate to it..

I actually had the opposite experience 😄 As I got older, I became more interested, but in a different way.

As a kid, I loved the drama and stars. As an adult, I appreciate the tactics, discipline, physical conditioning, and mental toughness.

Your shift is normal. Interests evolve. If pro sports feel silly, you might enjoy just playing casually or doing solo fitness instead.

It's not that I've lost interest. It's that you look at things on a much smaller scale when you're younger. When I was young the Chicago Bulls were winning championships. And it felt like that was almost a lock to happen each year. Now 28 years. Later the Bulls haven't been back to the Finals and only the ECF's once. Not to mention when we're young the world feels more pure and less tainted (it's not but it feels that way when you're young). You see the business side of everything as you age. Why would I get superinvested in a Bulls team that isn't superinvested in winning? I still enjoy watching basketball as much as I did when I was younger. I just am realistic about the teams chances. I'll admit that is still hard for me to stomach losing though.

Not really lost interest, I just haven’t been entertained for a while. I grew up during some of the best times in history for some sports.

for example, when I was growing up, Jordan was killing it in the NBA, Gretzky still played hockey and football had all the well known names like Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Gianfranco Zola, Vidmar, Larson, Zidane and so on forever. Tennis had Agassi, Sampras, Hewitt, Federer etc.

These sports had a level of personality never seen before or since. So yes. I have stopped watching as much and I’m too old to play football and rugby now.

I find myself mainly watching the odd game of rugby league at the pub these days and I don’t really follow anything. I’ll have a punt on the horses now and then.

My switch from speed to endurance: I used to sprint on the tracks in high school and college but I later decided to run long distances which I'm still doing now.

My switch from player to spectator: I was a very active soccer player when I was still in school but I just watch soccer as a fan nowadays instead of playing it.

I also grew up both, watching and playing it...

I still play it because I always loved sports like that... but it's been six to years now, in which I just completely stopped watching soccer

it changed way too much... it used to be a competitive sport, but nowadays is GAMBLING HERE, GAMBLING OVER THERE and more marketing and commercial stuff

it's just not fun nor interesting anymore... it's no longer a sport, it's just entertainment and not a good one at that either

Pretty much the same as you. Professional sports have become a joke on so many levels. I have seen "professional disc golf" (think Frisbee to a target), as well as the typical sports- basketball (I guess they don't worry about "traveling" these days), baseballs (umps are becoming a joke), and bowling (with balls that do all the work).

Much the same. I just think professional sports is like Coca Cola versus Pepsi. Sports are better when it is tribal.

I’ve never understood the allure of watching other people be active while you sit on the couch. That’s why I have more respect for gamers than I do sports fans that are couch potatoes.

Yes. I used to gamble too much so ended up watching sport more to bet than to enjoy it

That was a couple of rotten apples. One guy was a bad influence on some people, but now they’ve stopped it because they ended up getting in trouble for it after all for kneeling on the ground instead of standing
