Possible since its all scripted anyway, if they want US to win they'll win. I remember my friend thinking at 12 wrestling was real... I kept trying to tell him its not they just write what is going to happen. He eventually realized I was right and spoke about football matches... had to break the bad news to him again.
Shows you how smart the average human is when they be thinking the stakes matter and not understanding this. And yes sometimes it can go off script but that doesn't mean its not scripted.

I don't know much about soccer, but from what I read they don't have much of a chance. Sounds like getting to where they are now is a big accomplishment and looking good for the future.

Probably not, because there isn't much of an audience for American professional soccer, so there isn't the revenue to pay high salaries, so American youth aren't motivated to pursue a career in soccer. Elsewhere soccer is wildly popular, they players are highly paid, so they have the best.

No. As I explained elsewhere, our best athletes play other sports, where they make twice as much money if not a bit more than that. Our fastest sprinters play American Football and everyone else plays either Baseball or Basketball. So you're looking at our 4th pool of athletes for Soccer.

It's not unusual for lower ranked teams to beat better teams. Also remember a lot of European teams won't be used to playing in high temperatures. Plus you've got home advantage. I'd say unlikely but worth a bet.

I don't see it happening anytime soon. The mainstream culture in America looks down on football/soccer so pumping the best athletes into the sport isn't going to happen. Americans only seem to care about the sport when their country is doing reasonably well for once.

@Xoirwinkan somewhat true. The US dominates many sports. It's easily the most dominate nation. However, some popular sports (like baseball), the US doesn't hold a complete monopoly or domination over.

Funny thing is that the sport is historical and used to be violent and was even banned by the Pope at one point. Sometimes they even played with someone's head instead of the ball.
