Nah... in the football world Belgium are a giant compared to the US, which will begin to care about the sport again in something just short of 4 years from now when It will once again provide the opportunity to wear the flag, paint it on various body parts and scream "MURICA... WOOOOOO". Very annoying and very like Dallas Cowboy fans. Win one game and suddenly it's "our year". For heaven's sake US, Belgium didn't even put in it's best players until late in the match. Mexico showed much more heart.

Who cares if Belgium is a small country, they qualified on merit and being amazing football players.
In the world of soccer (the original football game), the mighty USA is the "little guy" while the "little country" (Belgium) is among the "mighty giants" of the sport.
Being Belgian, and although actually not really interested in football, I think that Mr Trump's dishonest silly intervention only gave the Belgian "Red Devils" much more motivations, and that the American team members were somehow embarrassed by the FIFA's decision, thus less concentrated. The 4/1 result seems logic to me.
Oh come on. All people from other lands know that Soccer, or what you call "Association Football", is something that Americans have only recently taken up. But there *is* something about the game that just makes many Americans disgusted:
I felt bad for the U. S. players as a non-American. This whole fiasco with Trumpty Dumpty once again interjecting himself into something he has no business being anywhere near, hung over those players heads. They knew if they had won, the whole world would accuse them of cheating. If they lose their home country is disappointed. A lose-lose game for them. When you're playing at the elite level of the World Cup you cannot have psychological distractions like that. Moreover, it gave Belgium extra motivation, which they didn't have before Trumpty Dumpty opened his big fucking mouth. I guarantee the U. S. players did not want him interfering. I think all this affected their play. It certainly affected Belgium's play, for the worse if you're on the American team.
LOL, it proves that the US has never put much effort into football (soccer) and most of our top athletes gravitate to the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL. I don't know why but the US has never jumped on board the FIFA train with the rest of the world. FIFA for all its faults and all the complaining about it has done something no other pro sport has ever done. They have herded 48 cats (currently) into a global spectacle of goodwill.
You just showed your hand. Your obsession with the US doing better than expected in the world cup, didn't have anything to do with them possibly winning and supposedly showing arrogance. You wanted to see them get knocked out wayyy more than any American wanted to see them win. It just never seizes to amaze me how obsessed Europe is with the US. It's actually disturbing.
@Twodogs0525 I think it's largely because Europe is collapsing. Many of them are too elitist to even care. The US is an easy target, which ironically is a nation they depend on. Europe is like a teenager having tantrums and certain it's always right, while everything crumbles before it's eyes. Sad really.

They will be taken over by migrants that upend their values and ethics (even by hard leftists perspectives), and they will beg the US for help (as always). By that time, the relationship will likely be worse than it is now. Europeans will get their big comeuppance that they seem to desire. This assumes they continue down the current path.
@FrodoSkywalker007 I do think Europe will not be Europe in a few decades. They are done. Hundreds of years of culture thrown away by one weak generation. It will never come back either unless a purge happens and that is unlikely as they are so pathetic.

It’s all good. We wouldn’t want the world’s largest sports market to take an interest in soccer as that might elevate it. The rest of the world needs something to be best at and can you imagine the groans of having to play in those tiny stadiums elsewhere? We have better High School stadiums built for a real game, football 🏈. Ah well, maybe Trump can give NATO a red card.

lol a majority of Americans don’t give a shit about soccer. So we lost, o skin off our backs. Americans love American football, UFC, violent sports. Soccer is kind of boring. I mean honestly I think most people are obsessed w the US, always trying to talk their bs.
In soccer terms the situation is reversed, the US is the little guy and Belgium are the giants, so no shock in the US losing to one of the top soccer nations.
@purplepoppy Belgium did not crush USA. USA crushed itself. Belgium's first three goals were gifts by the USA defense. The fourth goal was scored after their best player entered the game in the last few minutes, when the result was guaranteed.

Somebody has to!! Maybe it just proves that Belgiuim spends and inordinately large spate of their time playing soccer rather that actually excelling in anything important.
In the USA, football/soccer is just slightly more popular than women's basketball. Most of us do not care except during the World Cup and Olympics. And once the US team is eliminated most of those stop following.

@Iron_Man I think she is a sweetheart, and a very smart, intuitive young woman. She lives in the UK and has a very different view of us here in the U. S., but I respect the differences in her POV, and I think she knows and understands that. I hope she has a good appreciative young man in her life who appreciates her intellect and very open view of the world.
