This is the training through 3rd degree black belt for Isshinryu Okinawan karate and Japanese Ju Jitsu that my Sensei taught, not to mention he also taught Gracie BJJ.

White belt - Learns basic striking and blocking. That's 15 hand strikes, 15 kicks, and 8 blocks. Learns I think 3 basic submissions and a few simple combinations, including "five swords" borrowed from Kenpo karate. Requires 3 months or 90 gym hours to promote minimum.

Yellow Belt - Learns breakfalls, around 20 submissions, and sensei's personal custom kata. Requires 3 months or 90 gym hours.

Orange Belt: Learns another 20 submissions and Sanchin Kata and an unofficial Eskrima kata. Requires 3 months or 90 gym hours.

Blue Belt: Learns another 20 submissions (20 per belt on average) and Seisan Kata and bunkai. Requires 3 months or 90 gym hours.

Light Green Belt: Learns Seiunchin Kata and Tokomini No Kun bo kata. Requires 4 months or 120 gym hours.

Dark Green Belt: Naihanchi Kata and Bunkai. 4 months or 120 gym hours.

Purple Belt: Wansu kata and Kian No Sai kata, 4 months or 120 gym hours.

Brown Belt: Chinto Kata and bunkais. One year or nearly 400 gym hours.

2nd degree brown belt: Kusanku kata and bunkai. Another year.

3rd degree brown belt: Sunsu kata and Hamahiga tuifa kata and bunkai. Another year.

Black Belt: 2 years and another kata I never started.

2nd Black Belt: 2 more years to get 3rd degree black belt.

3rd Degree black belt: Should know all 800 pressure points on the body. 5 years to promote to 4th degree black belt, and 5 years per promotion thereafter.

Of course, you also learn around 50 total sweeps and throws by the time you are testing for black belt, and again, the general rule is 20 submissions per belt rank.

Rank: Is determined by fighting ability in hard sparring. The rule is for every 2 belts you go up, you should be able to win a 1vs2 handicap against your old belt rank in full contact.
