The story about the first aid kit and the single quarter was cute! What do girl scouts nowadays get in their first aid kit, a mobile phone? lol I don't even know where the next payphone is...
Ha! I think kids who do a lot of after school activities get cell phones so mom and dad can call them. It used to really be, people would say, not until my kid is 13 or something at least, but now, phone companies make phones where the kids can dial only the pre-programed numbers, aka, mom and dad, and only receive calls from them.
Really? Which companies do that or what's the phone called? My uncle wouldn't give his daughter a mobile phone, because he thinks it would feed her gaming addiction and she'd talk too much to her friends.
A lot of phone companies offer some type of kids plan, whereby I think you either buy the parental control software or it comes built in. Your uncle can definitely do things like track everything in the phone and restrict screen time. Here's a link, but there are many www.asecurelife.com/best-cell-phones-for-kids/
Cell phones/smartphones have ruined many aspects of how good life was back when. People had to leave their house to visit others. People had to talk to carry on a conversation. People had to be themselves to make friends. Examples go on and on.
Preach! I went to the airport before Christmas when it was packed with an actual book, and I was the ONLY one with my face not buried in a phone. I thought it was so crazy to think, a decade a go, people would be chatting with one another, or complaining about late flights, or reading newspapers, and now, it's a zombie nation.
ah yes, pay phones. I remember being 5 years old and calling my dad on one inside Walmart lol. I just recently got my first cell phone but really I don't use it very much.
I think pay phones should still be around. If you have no charge or no cell and an emergency you are screwed In a way you might not have been before advanced technology.

Agree in sitting at the table at a restaurant with my family and there's like a group come in and just sit and be on the phone, like a flock of woodpeckers. Its anywhere though. I wanna talk to the cute girl waiting for them to change my oil, but no she acts all closed off and uppity pulls out her phone plays on it instead. Men are up against technology
I only just got into using a cell phone when I went to college. Before that, I always had a landline. It was so satisfying to hang up a landline phone on a telemarketer.
Not only that... I miss the joys of not being found. Now, people text and expect an immediate response no matter where you are or what you're doing, and if not that, they call you like everything is an emergency just to say, hey, what are you doing.
@Plumy exactly! I think those millennials are spreading fake theories before inventions of mobile so they can make us stop using them. But I know the truth, cell phones existed before humans walked on Earth. If you don't believe, check the metal present in your cell phone. It is 500000 years old
What? Where? The last time I saw one (that was still working that is), was like 6 years ago randomly in front of a museum, but I think they put it there like an ancient relic.
There's one in Miami Florida that has a pay phone in the food court area at the mall just like the one that you posted in the picture plus I've seen one on my trips when traveling
So true. So true the worst thing was asking a girl for her number which meant her home number and when you called it meant her mom or dad answered the phone and wanted to know who was calling. Ugh.

Life was better without smartphones , when people would have more real life Interaction instead of being glued to their phone while someone is talking to them

Thanks for the link! The ones with set amount of screen time are neat. I'll tell him about it.

Times have definitely changed, I was born in 1987... I wasn't really ever raised with cellphones until late teens so yeah but now they're everywhere!
I only just got into using a cell phone when I went to college. Before that, I always had a landline. It was so satisfying to hang up a landline phone on a telemarketer.

yeah, that is annoying as well.
It was barbaric. We had to physically socialize with people in order to staying contact.
I enjoyed this Take immensely - so very, very true! 😂
I wish I could do that as well
I like the old movies where they had to find a pay phone to call people - so retro.
I wish I grew up in a generation without cell phones. Would have been amazing.
I think I've very poor memory because I don't remember any of those.
Maybe it never existed!

Waw that is true, radiocarbon dating can't lie!
Yeah I wish just showing up at someone's doorstep wasn't taboo
Nice MyTake. They still have a few of those pay phones around

Wow. I mean nowadays it really is like walking down Main Street and seeing an elephant down the street to see one.

Modern technology makes writing stories a lot harder and usually more more boring when every problem can be solved instantaneously.
