Why do you think so many people hate the way they look in photos (including selfies)?

Because the new cameras have digital pixels down to being able to the hair on a microbe's ass on your face and the lux is so low that the light is artificially intensified so that even a nice face can look ravaged or rough. If you notice, movies are still made with Panavision Cameras like and film for a very good reason because the film is actually analog and only limited by the film grain and it smooths the boundary transitions that is more natural to the analog human eye. Given the expense of a shot, film is still the chosen media.
I don’t care, but you can look pretty weird depending on the angle of the photo. I was visiting the hospital the other day and they basically took a picture of my neck because I am tall. So if the angle isn’t right it’s like a fun house mirror due to perspective. That is much different than what you see at your own eye level looking in a mirror.
Because we're our own worse judge.
We see every flaw in ourselves, especially when comparing ourselves to others we think look better than we do.
I flat out hate how I look in pictures because I still see that fat girl from years ago with bad acne. Yet others think I look good. So yeah, poor self esteem probably doesn't help matters either.
Because some pictures make you look very bad/weird than you actually are. It makes you cringe. They're bad at posing
or the camera lens is weird.. Then there are some people who have very self esteem. They're not confident at all. That's why they stay away from taking pictures of themselves.

Because you are so used to seeing yourself the wrong way...
Every day you see yuor own face in a mirror, most of the time over and over. This is the way you are supposed to look - it is the picture of yourself that you carry around with you in your mind.
But here ist he twist! This is actually not what you look like and you are the only one who sees you this way. Everyone else sees you not-mirrored.
When you take a picture of yourself you see your face the way everyone else does - but you are not used to this. It looks like you, you know it's you, but everything feels just a little bit of. because your face is not mirrored! Try mirroring the picture and you will immediately feel better.
I don't know i like how i look when I'm taking selfies. Recently i fell in love with myself.
I never know that could happen.
I took a really good and perfect selfie that i absolutely adore and my self esteem go really high straight to the sky.
I think it's just about angle and their self esteem level.
Because a lot people look way worse on camera than irl. Both camera's and mirrors lie. Apparently real life is a lot more forgiving than a camera. A camera takes a static 2d image so a lot of the time its going to look bad also they distort your face.
We judge ourselves more harshly than anyone. Think of it like an artist does their work. They’ll notice every flaw even when others think it looks fine. I’m that way with my cakes. I obsess over everything from smoothing the buttercream on the cake to the accurate decorations. I’ll still think it looks bad but everyone thinks it’s beautiful. Selfies aren’t any different. We’re our biggest critics.
In my opinion it's very strange. Not the dislike, but the way that a camera lense can change your perception of what you look like. For example, I've tried looking into a mirror directly, as well as taking a picture of me in that mirror.. and I feel like the me in the mirror, not on the screen, looks more accurate. As if the picture itself was... wrong? I'm not sure if I'm the only person who felt that way before..
I've felt the same.
This is because it's mirrored. You almost never see your face the way others do. You always see it mirroed in objects and left and right switches places. By photographing yourself - you suddenly see yourself the way everyone else does. But since you are not used to it eveything feels just a little bit off.
It's mainly because the camera lens distorts the image due to its very small focal length.
Most people look worse with a fish eye effect on.
I rather not have people remember me honestly.. my dad use to chase me with the camera.. always hated being the center of attention.. so there's like no pictures of me younger unless my tounge is sticking out as I am older now I dont care as much..
Distortion because it's not a telephoto lens I believe.
Poor lighting and the fact that a mirror presents an innacurrate reversed image.
When you look in the mirror it's not quite correct so when some people see themselves in a selfie they think it's way off, but it's closer to reality than they know.
Why would anyone down vote this.
You can just google it.
It's fact.
We all tend to pick out tiny flaws about ourselves that everyone else doesn't even notice, and that's completely normal! You are your own worst critic.
We are never as attractive as we want to be, and we see the worst in ourselves most of the time (I'm assuming that's relatively normal).
Angles and lighting can make people insecure 🌸💜🌸
Face gets distorted
I found when taking a pic of myself in a mirror it looks better because when taking a normal selfie the nose looks bigger than it actually is etc
Also you can see your asymmetries in a selfie
Because photos are liars. It's like seeing a pretty sunset and taking a photo of it, it doesn't look as good.
Yheyre used to seeing themselves into he mirror, things look out of place when they see themselves in pictures
Pretty much every possible reasons you can think of but I don't know about selfies I feel like most people like the way they look in selfies
Because the cameras distort you into a blob and also mess up the lighting
That has scientific explanation. Too hard to explain here right now but I'm sure you'll be able to find it on google
Theyte probably not confident in themselves. They believe they're not pretty enough
Because they are taking the pictures straight forward usually, and close to the camera.
So their nose becomes more dominant and other features get a little weirdly proportioned.
It's usually just men because we never wash our face and a selfie shows all the pock marks and blemishes.
I only take selfies with the angles I look good in so no prob lol
Pictures are a disaster though
Because we look better in the mirror and in person than in the selfies. There is a video on YouTube about it.
Camera will distort the way we look. The nose will be more pronounced, eyes smaller, any asymmetry will be visible. Also camera flips the image which to me is more annoying than anything else.
I have no problem with selfies but main camera makes me look awful or i do look awful and selfie camera makes me better
We are used to how we look that we see things that we hate on ourselves very easily.
Because it looks different than what they are used to seeing in the mirror
We know and see our flaws
Because were hideous.
