Do you think children under 15 should be able to have social media?

The bigger picture is it would probably create mentally healthier children (adults) if they were not on social media. But the reality is that they're almost all jonesing to get on, and their friends are doing it, and they will be silently iced out of a lot of things if they completely abstain. So finding the balance is absolutely crucial. And parents forever more will be wrestling with this problem. The kids are going to have temper tantrums when it is denied/taken away, no ifs and or buts about it.
And the accounts should be monitored. And the kids are going to set up additional secret accounts. And the parents need to dig around and try and find those too. Because they're children. And despite what they think, they are not the most mature, smartest, and always know best.
The question is, what do we consider social media?
I used forums, deviantart, fotolog and so when I was under 13. However I always used an anonymous profile.
So for me it depends on if it's going to be an anonymous profile.
If it's not, I believe it can be ok if they have a real but private account in which they only accept very close friends. As long as they don't add strangers or kids they don't trust, it shouldn't cause any trouble. Of course, how trustworthy and how mature is the kid, is also a factor to consider, before letting the kid use social media or not.
I agree with you for the most part, I just feel like even if your account was private there are still ways of getting past it
Maybe if you are a Russian spy 🤔

It's tough... Honestly if it were up to me, I'd make social media specifically for that age range to use. It's fair to say that they need adult support and want to have adult conversations but as we all get older, we all start to realise how vunerable we are at early ages. It's hard to see when you are in an early age but it's simply the truth. We are so eager for adulthood yet not fully understanding what that really means.
I'd let my children have social media when they can build their own spam filter with Naive Bayes algorithm, it's kinda like Hello World but for children of the AI generation, a rite of passage.

If I ever have kids, I’m not giving them any phones or iPads. I’ll let them get a job and work for it.
That seems a tad bit harsh 😂
I know, it’s just me being protective
My kids won't have access to social media in my home until they move out. Its blocked at the firewall level..
Oop- 👀
I don’t think so. Social media can be damaging to ones self esteem and mental health. I wouldn’t want to expose a 15 year old to it unless it were for school related things.
Too many kids get bullied on Social Media and they would be better off without it. Plus girls are becoming Ho's earlier and earlier which is even more reason to clamp down on it.
Well just Facebook maybe. I used that to meet up with study groups and to exchange textbooks. And it's usually friends adding friends.
Definitely not Twitter too many "influencers" on that doing all types of weird crap.
If i had a kid, and all their friends have social media, i would be okay with my kid having it as well.
When i was kid, i was just like everyone else, so i can't deprive my kid of the same thing i had.
Social media's gotten poisonous. Young kids end up with all kinds of issues after having role models that post edited pics and fake happiness.
they should absolutely not but they absolutely will. we have not yet grown enough as a society to control and manage the impact of the internet at all.
They should be able to.
The problem is that the way things are presently, there is no guarantee that they are safe from certain adults.
Social media is all fake. I don't think people of ANY age should even bother.
And surely no one under 18 should be allowed on this site - it's adult content and discussion, and we just don't need or want children on here.
Ok boomer 👌
Okay zoomer. Fukkin idiot.
Someone seems angry 😉
Someone projects, appears ignorant.
Probably not... then again, none of us probably should.
I think social media is a detriment to people regardless of age.
Most people shouldn't have access to it full stop, way to easy to scam fool and be completely sick in the head so no. Defo no.
As long as it is monitored with restrictions but that is my humble opinion.
Yeap, probably better than suddenly being thrown into it at 16.
No I would not allow that for my future children
You shouldn't be allowed to have it until age 21
I mean it is your opinion but that's a weird age to set it at.
With parental supervision.
Nope
No I don't think so
