Never! What is the point if you can not have any life doing things outdoors? You would be like in a prison, trapped inside with artificial means to make life possible there. If the low oxygen and heat doesn't get you radiation from the sun and cosmic rays will get you unless you are constantly shielded against it in cumbersome suits. That same radiation would kill plants too so you would have to grow all your food inside. What a great life that would be.
We are pretty close it's been scheduled between 2025 - 2030👨🚀👩🚀
Not confident we'll be able to do so in our lifetime, alas.
But the steps forward we did in that direction have been awesome. The stride of our progress in astronomical knowledge is a thing of wonder. THIS side of the modern times I'm enjoying. Very much.
What happens on Earth though, it's a completely different story.
There is not going to be any more manned space missions for a long time. Trump was planning on going to the moon and then on to Mars. Biden is dismantling the Space Force Trump created and will let in so many illegal aliens the country will be bankrupted. We will not be able to go to Pittsburg never mind Mars.
Biden actually supports the space program he even increased budget of NASA.

We're scheduled to send the first astronauts in 2025, aren't we? Depending on what you count as a colony, then it should be set by 2026. If you mean like an independent settlement that doesn't need constant support from earth, then not for a few centuries, at least.
Nice one. I would consider first human on Mars as colony because they will have to stay there for quite some time before another launch window.
It will happen, but I doubt it will be in my lifetime. That's a shame. I saw men walk on the moon, so I'd like to watch the colonization of Mars unfold.
Even if you won't see the colonization you are going to see the landing
I don't think we ever will. I think we're going to collapse as a society, and never recover.
However, if we don't... there's a big difference between getting a human to mars and safely home to Earth, and actually being able to set up a colony there. We are several decades away from the first. Several centuries away from the second.
I would say between 2030-2050; we still have a long way to go.
Colonize?
Somewhere after the year 2100. Terraforming may take centuries.
In my view terraforming is better than colonizing.
Full colonization in the second half of the 21st century. By the start of the 22nd century there will be living Martians.
Never.
It's just a pipedream some billionaire have, to avoid paying tax.
We can't colonize Mars until we fix the problems with Earth. Stop pollution and stop AIDS.
Half a century ago, Armstrong landed on the moon.
Result: nothing of significance.
Why would Mars be any different?
Perhaps, by 2100 or so, there will be some mining. But I can't see a 'colonization'.
Moon landing led to innovation in communications, fabrics, all kinds of filters, advanced materials. We proven that Moon was created by collision of dwarf planet Thea with Earth billions of years ago and it inspired and still inspires billions of people.
What I mean is, that although the Moon was within reach, and although plenty of people are and were excited about the idea of 'living' on moon: nothing was done about it.
I'd say in about 100 - 200 years. But there will be conflict over it.
I don’t know, but hopefully it’s not because this planet goes to shit.
soon from all the stuff I've been reading
100 years from now maybe
In next 2 decades.
2030
Hopefully soon
No, why bother?
20-50 years
