Would you ever buy a refurbished or a used phone from someone?

I am using an iPhone 8. It is an Apple replacement with a Model Number that starts with an N. To make a long story short I bought an iPhone8 off eBay and was going to send the phone to Apple for a battery replacement. They tested the phone and it failed a lot of tests. Apple had a recall of the iPhone 8 at the time so they replaced it. I have just under $300 invested in basically a new iPhone 8. On iPhones check the battery health and don't spend a lot of cash on one that is showing less than 80%. Also, make sure the iPhone or iPad has had ALL the apple account information removed.

My last 3 phones have been refurbished, worked with no problems at all, why 3 I hear you ask were they defective? No, 1 was lost overboard from a ship, the 2nd was crushed in a work accident, and the last I'm still using.
The only refurbished phones I would not buy are Iphones, even refurbished they are too expensive.

I was given one once. It was only worth the charging cube. Not even the gas to the recycler. There are some things worth buying new.

As a none cyber security person how would someone like myself know what to look for and to know if the phone itself is safe the refurbished phone is selling for $1,500 it’s an IPhone 12 Pro Max these phones sell brand new for over $2,000 so I’d be saving about $1,000

IPhones are relatively safe. It is important to have strong passwords, use VPN when possible and have Anti Virus software on your systems. I use android/Samsung because of the customisation and I'm just more used to that. But apple is fine. Just also make sure your data is constantly backed up too. At the end of the day, keeping it physically safe is the most important factor. It doesn't matter what passwords you have on it, if I can touch it, I can hack it.

Also, Update your phone as soon as updates are available. Don't use unsupported phones. That's all.

Yeah, I usually do - obviously from somewhere with a decent returns policy. The only issue I've encountered has been poor battery life, which is to be expected on an older phone, and can be cheaply remedied.

Those are the best kind. You know that device has been though a life and isn't going to break on you quick. Just like a used car, you really need to know what you're buying.

Yes. I bought my phone barely used 3 years ago for $600 cheaper than it would have been new. I haven't had any issues with it.

I wouldn't consider Iphones to be a good value for the money, cause i can get at least 3 android phones for the same price :D

But if you are willing to spend over a thousand bucks on a phone i think 25% off is a decent offer.

If it’s a lot cheaper than a new phone, yeah. But refurbished iPhones are only about 5-10% cheaper from apple.
