Does Alexa creep you out?

I don’t have any smart assistant. I’ve even gimped Siri on my phone. I also have a microphone blocker on my laptop, which runs Linux instead of Windows.
The only exception is my TV. It’s a Samsung tv with Bixby that you can’t turn off, so I just Block it at the router. If I get a PS5, I’ll be performing surgery on the controller to cut the wire on the built in microphone.
Alexa and I have a good relationship. Nothing sexual, of course, but we are friends. She tells me jokes, plays music, gives me weather reports, and answers questions when I ask her. Sometimes she blinks her light to let me know she's listening, and more rarely, she says something that has nothing to do with what anyone in the room is talking about.
I know several women who don't like Alexa. My SO puts up with her, doesn't like her. Most guys I know think Alexa is fine. I wonder if Alexa's female voice is interpreted by women as competition. Alexa is not, of course, she's just a piece of electronics.
Thanks for the mho
At first I hated the idea, but with wifi plugs and lightbulbs, tv’s, music, etc. It became an instrumental system that, in part with others, helped me take care of my elderly mother for many years. It paid for itself over and over again.
The whispering feature is hilarious.
The singing “you’re welcome” and the creepy “goodbyyye” when you cancel could be removed.

We kicked her out of the house …when she got nosy about our business.
My iPhone does the same… unless we live without a phone… we are pretty much tracked.
Hi dear
@Marypindea stop being creepy. We all know you're a guy pretending to be a girl just so you can hit on them.
@StrawberryShake
I forgot to say to these "people"... you are blocked and reported. There are just too many.
Who me? Or him...
@StrawberryShake the other… I blocked and reported
Your good 😊
Oh ok lol

Yeah I hate that shit. I would ban all listening devices in my home... but my husband has them. He wants to be in the know about all tech, and likes speakers for music all over. But I absolutely hate them. I'm philosophically against tech listening and tracking us.
Don't have one but google freaks me out, can be talking about something and I think, I'll pull out my phone and search for that and soon as I hit the first letter, it auto fills it in.
It was listening through my phone and waiting for me.
I dont trust siri, alexa, nunna them virtual hoes. I mean Jexi my little bad bad but other than that, nah. Them little hoes are straight nosey and i cut them off 24/7
Yes definitely. We now leave ours switched off unless we want to use it for playing music. We need to all accept that if we use a mobile, a laptop, Alexa or any similar such technology then we are being tracked and monitored. I got so fed up I pretty much abandoned mainstream social media and have my home router setup on a VPN.
It's Big Brother listening. That's not paranoia, it really is listening. It not only listens, but it records and archives it. Alexa recordings have been used in court.
Even if people choose to use it, if it's used outdoors it can pick up other people nearby without their consent.
It's interesting that the name is the same as their old Internet spy bot.
Yeah it can be a bit weird when it gets triggered lol. Some movies also trigger the damn thing lol or in my case things I have a number.
i do a lot of automation testing and some of it involves Alexa.
if a friend has Alexa or similar and a decent answerphone that screens calls, you can have fun with their Alexa. ‘Alexa set Alarm 2am’
... So there's a company that's widely known to have a sense of operational ethics comparable to those of the Gambino family, and this company releases a robot that monitors everything you say, and you PAID MONEY to be allowed to take this device into your home.
And you ask if the ROBOT is the one that's creepy?
Wow what
@Marypindea A guy who's old enough to remember the Cold War is paying to be spied on. That, in my book, is creepier than a device that openly spies.
Namerofstar
I saw on TV that Alexa can record your conversations in your home. That sounded too weird to me. Lord help us! What DID we do before Alexa?
What huh
Dont want that crap in my house. I get up from my chair and change the TV myself. Bo remote control needed
Remember how some dumb politicians said that Alexa is safe, beacuse its turned off when not being used. Fucking morons. Why do you think it reacts when its called for? Because its permanently on.
Shit's creepy. People essentially got themselves NSA in their house and paid for it.
I refuse to own one or any of those devices!! It's like inviting the FBI to live with you and watch/listen to everything you do and say!! Other than to make phone calls and check the weather, I don't even want a cell phone but, as I'm nearly dead silent 24/7, there's nothing for it TO listen to!!
I wouldn't ever install a surveillance bug like that in my home. I turn off my cell phone most of the time as well for the same reason.
I have an inherent fear of any potently sentient artificial life. Not today skynet.
I won't allow her into my house.
She’s a freaky little gadget & although Alexa has been BANNED from my place of residency my parents have a few of them & all I can say is that I don’t trust her.
ASK ALEXA TO BEATBOX.
Text me
@Marypindea Donkeys Or Ponies?
not really. if you have apple or android, you basically have a device on your person that listens to you 100% of the time. not just when you're in the same room like alexa. but litterally 100% of the time, cause you always have that thing with you.
Hey how do you feel
@Marypindea being spied on by my phone. you know full on tin-foil hat mode :D just kidding. tin foil on my head doesn't stop my phone from hearing what i say XD anyway. guess i'm fine :P how are you?
Good text me now
@Marypindea ok boss. lol
@Marypindea "This user allows private messages from followings only!"
Human beings listen to your conversations too, not just the device.
time.com/5568815/amazon-workers-listen-to-alexa/
Your phone is listening to everything you say as well lmfao
@Lyndsielee666 😱 I never thought of that lol
No because all those services are turned off in my house. I don't want them and I don't want them. Why would I pay for a spy in my house?
Adam
Lmao, I usually run a cool 10-15 years behind technology. Holler at me in like 2035, I’ll have a review of the Alexa XIV😝
Believe it or not I don't have Alexa. If I want to turn on my lights I go to my phone and do it. The same goes for the stereo. I don't need Alexa when I can do it with a few touches on my phone
Huh that
Why can't just get up and walk over to wall and turn crap off. I never needed a cellphone or remote control to turn on and off shit
I can test them to by flipping a switch on the wall. Install many light switches and outlets in day and they never never a cellphone to work
Their stupid and like to waste money
I hear that, their still dumb
@exitseven I love
It's just a computer program that is triggered by the wake word. Occasionally some sound will be close and it begins listening.
is good somtime. i had a google home instead. set alarm to text to you if a person has a broken in your home or stole you things. if you have own home security system.
Yes, I have to remove the power chord to feel completely safe after I’m done using it.
Disable the “the wife is always right “ skill in your Alexa app. 🤣
lol. More nut jobs believing companies are listening to you. I could understand if it was data. You're just a nut job like most of racist America. At least that what it looks like from here.
Haha yes I hate her! convenient but ready to unplug at any time
Yep, always listening. Same with Siri, unless you change your settings.
Otherwise you would need to push a button or something to get its "attention".
I asked Alexa for her hand in marriage, she told me she wasn't ready to be tied down
Yep, they say it is not recording all the time, if that is the case why does it respond when you call its name?
It's weird. But I like AI.
Some AI are nicer and smarter than some people.
I am not totally sold on Alexa or Google devices that you can ask anything is a little creepy and feel someone is listening.
Well sometimes she turns yellow, but it's usually a package that was left outside the door because apparently knocking isn't allowed anymore..
No, because I'm a programmer, so I know how these things work. Fear often comes from the unknown. Learn to understand it.
Yes, which is why I don't have one.
Privacy was a brief, very brief (150 years or so) fleeting thing in human society. It's over.
yes !!! she is Alawa's listening? who dose she report too!
I use Alexa only as clock and for command some switches.
What do you mean
That he uses Alexa as a clock and for command some switches
How does she respond? lol I don't use her so no issues here lol.
Weird. One more reason I won’t have a smart speaker.
Why would it. I use mine as a paperweight a very expensive paperweight
Yes I got one of those but I cut her off because she still talks even when you’re quiet
I don't use Alexa
Alexa was greattt in Mr. Robot
Alexa is a bit creepy.
No its pretty stupid and rarely understands me!
You know it is always listening right?
Get rid of the fucking spy box
Huh what
@Marypindea Alexa is a spy box for the government
That's why I don't have one.
"Hey wiretap, what's the recipe for pancakes?"
I refuse to get one of those.
Alexa is everyone's friend
I even tried to date her. It would have been electrifying
Most smart things are listening
Thought about getting that but I’m good
Yes she does its a voice activated app
Ever see the miniseries called next? Trippy.
lol :)
Just a bit.
😆 yea yea I did
