Who knows. Personally I don't give a toss about social media, but Twitter has earned itself a bad rap for being basically a far left political echo chamber. As the majority shareholder and now member of their board, he has the power to either fundamentally change their business practices or destroy them if he so chooses. Elon isn't a particularly conservative or right-wing guy, but he has made his displeasure with Twitter's censorship of "the public square" publicly known, so it's probably safe to say that at the very least, some of the more overt partisanship and censoring will be coming to an end.

The value of Twitter stock also shot up substantially just from him joining the board (which says a lot about the general opinion of how it was being run). Elon is a pretty erratic guy though, and he could just as likely be toying with them to fund some other project.

A pity. I've gone, over the years from thinking "social media causes brain damage" to "social media IS brain damage", and Twitter's (from what I hear) the worst of the lot. I'd hate to see Elon Musk lost to it.

Observation of the effects. A small character limit discourages nuance and expression of complex ideas, a segregateable population leads to the creation of echo chambers, where opposing ideas don't get brought up and people start to see the "other side" as being irredeemable, since no one ever argues FOR it logically, that they see, and a userbase way, WAY beyond the Dunbar threshold of ANY living creature invites comparison to the best in everything, pushing people into feelings of inferiority and isolation, which makes them more susceptible to the cult-like mentality that predominates on many of these platforms.

I wasn't on Facebook very long, but it was long enough to know I want nothing more to do with it.

I kinda disagree. Life is about a few very good ideas (maybe) and most can be explained in a very few words. If you want you can do threads on twitter or link something your wrote or a screenshot of it. The means exist. But twitter is seen more as a random thoughts and opinions or news site.

As for the echo chamber thing. It's more of a human behaviour thing, than a social media thing. You might even see it in friend groups and such. It's just about who you follow in a certain sense and what they are like and what they post. In terms of echo chambers twitter is probably the best because retweets are easy so even if you sort of disagree with something but find it interesting, a few clicks and it's retweeted. And other people who follow you can see it.
As for Facebook, it's mostly a friends and known people site (I think?) So you just add people you know and so on. And it goes. It's not really "open" in a certain sense but maybe I'm wrong
