Wanna blow your mind? Many of the things in that picture have long since ceased to exist - and some haven't even existed since before the Earth coalesced into a planet. The distances are SO vast that it's taken billions of years for that light to reach us - enough that many stars that we see are already dead.

Some perspective: the fastest man-made object in the universe is the Voyager 2 probe, which is traveling at 37,000 miles per hour. It took 40 years just to leave the solar system, and IF it was headed for the closest star to Earth (it isn't, but if it was), it would take another 40,000 years to reach that star at its current speed. It would take almost 250,000 years to reach the closest planet that we believe is "Earth-like." That's half as long as humans have even existed.

Space is so big, we can't really grasp it other than mathematically. In some of those pictures, you are looking at THOUSANDS of galaxies - entire galaxies of stars, each with millions of stars and billions of planets...

First of all, disclaimer: I am not an astronomer or even have a science background. I majored in Social Sciences.

I've always had an interest in space, ever since I was a kid, and things like meteor showers, eclipses and comets always mesmerized me.

The Hubble Telescope was above and beyond anything we have on Earth. It made all kinds of research possible, and allowed us to see further and better into space.

The James Webb Telescope makes the Hubble telescope seem daltonic and in the dire need of glasses. The difference between the two is difficult to put into words.

In a few words, not only are the new pictures breathtaking, they mark a new era in a lot of what has to do with space itself.

In one word: Cool!

As a person who's always been curious about the universe, the pictures are absolutely beautiful.

If you think about it, technically we are looking back into the past, about 13.7 billion years ago. This not only means that those galaxies in the picture probably look very different by now, but it also means that potentially there might be more that we have not seen from beyond those galaxies, because the light is yet to reach us from that point.

It's one of those things where the more you know, the more you realize how much you don't know.

They are the most expensive pictures I’ve ever seen, but they are incredible, beautiful, spectacular, astonishing, breathtaking.
