Can you really make money through digital art?

Just heard about the digital world and how digital art can sell and whatnot...

I ordered a expensive ipad for this reason... Do you think I should return it?

Oh yes absolutely. There is a ton of things you can do with art/digital art.
FYI I work in the art business. The biggest change we've seen in the last 5 years is probably the introduction of NFT (non fungible tokens) along with crypto currencies like Bitcoin. Unfortunately this market is not stable, and Bitcoin has been losing heavy value of late. However what we have seen is an explosion of limited edition fine art prints. These are prints from original pieces of artwork/negatives/photos/digital art work that are in limited numbers that can be bought by art buyers.

Having an iPad certainly will help if you are a beginner or experienced artist - it can also be used as a traveling portfolio/sketchpad. But what you really need is something like a Mac Mini/MacBook coupled with big 4K or HD screen with a Wacom tablet that will allow you to edit and see in much more colour and detail.

There’s a lot of areas that digital art can cover. Anything from photography to illustration can be considered as art. I’ve seen a variety of works anything from digital montages/landscapes, 3D rendered concepts to comic style drawings and abstract/realistic illustrations being put out as prints. There’s also a new area opening up recently of animated segments that are sold as part of an art piece or commissioned work (for example an animation of someone walking with a dog which is put into a loop).

I mean you can. Especially if you take commissions. But just like anything really it's a pretty full market along with many just find free art online for whatever.
But that don't stop people from doing it and making money.
You don't see a writer not make a book because many exist and there is ways to get view their book for free online. And you don't see a musician not make music. Just the same you don't see an artist not make art.
Just gotta try play the game and hope for success.

I find digital anything to be too perfect to be real. Art is flawed, models are flawed not remade with big lips 👄 etc. Digital art will never auction well although a print is conducive to a wall in home. I like the flaws and style much more than a perfectly fake uniformity. Just me🤷🏻‍♂️

For home decorating in modern contemporary. I have a Dali print for instance mice in with cubism modern…different walls. Personal Art can be digital but not likely to sell in an art walk unless envisioned upon a residence wall 🤷🏻‍♂️

You're probably thinking NFT - which is a different ball game from art.

iPad isn't really good for art, especially if you're just a beginner.

Maybe think more about your art style and develop that instead, before going freelance.

You can if you get good and develop a solid customer base. With an iPad I'd suggest getting a glove so your hand doesn't mess with your work. Honestly though I'd just return it and get a PC and a USB drawing tablet.
