Do graphic designers make money these days?

I studied fashion design but I am going to study graphic design. I think there are more opportunities for graphic design. I see many company looking for a graphic designer than fashion designer. I always want to be a graphic designer. It was just cheap to study fashion design. But now I am planning to go back to school to become a graphic designer but I met a friend who told me that now days people can use photoshop and illustrator software and his friend couldn’t get a job. I don’t know what to do. Is it true that graphic designers can’t get a job these days? I might just sell my clothings online?
