Sure, it can help. You're going to get a much more informal/colloquial form of English here, but that can be good. I think one of the best ways, which you've probably already done, is watching TV and/or movies. News shows are also very good, because they usually speak clearly and you know what the subject is so it's easier to follow along.

You can learn a lot of vocabulary from reading on these kinds of sites, since everyone uses every day English.
Be wary, though, because grammar isn't everyone's best subject and many of them make big mistakes.
