It is a ham radio but works on the FM band it looks like.

Yeah it’s a dying art and hobby, I think my dad will just give me his if I want it but I can’t use it anywhere yet because of my living situation, I still have an Ft-900 Yaesu and some VHF Alinco radios

Getting them at an auction can be dangerous. Some used radios are available because there is something wrong with it. I had an HF rig that always went into oscillation and I could not work it out. Donated it to a ham group with more expertise than I had.

It is a mobile rig but too big and I would have to go right to the battery with power because it draws so many amps but I don’t want to mess around with this car because it’s too new

I sort of wanted one to talk to Art Bell in Nevada (coast to coast show host) , They say he would talk to you on HAM. But he died before I got one. You also need a huge antenna.
