IPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will not be getting IOS 16! Any IPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users out here?

I just found out that iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will not be getting IOS 16 or any further updates from Apple, which is outrageous! Not because I'm an iPhone 7 Plus user, but mainly because it's unfair for these particular models not to get IOS 16. There's iPads with older chipsets and less power than the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus that are going to be getting the update! I feel the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus should be supported to get major updates for at least 2 more years and then, be discontinued! I understand they're 6 years old, but common! They're still perfectly capable running IOS 16 if an iPad with an older chipset is capable of doing so! Any hope left for us that they'll change their mind on it?

I feel Apple is aware of the many people that are still using the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus till this date, and are therefore trying to force them to upgrade to newer devices very early on. I don't care what anyone says, the iPhone 7 line is still capable to run IOS 16!

I agree, I hate having to upgrade my phone every two years. That's as long as I'll keep my phone's because I know that they typically last up to 5 years I believe. After that I've always had problems. So, I started upgrading.

Android is much better in that sense because it's cheaper and they last longer than iPhone. (Upgrades)

However, I am a huge apple fan so I haven't changed yet. I know you may not want to change phones, but there's some really good deals going on right now if you trade in your phone.

The iPhone 7 was released in 2016, with 5 years of software updates promised. Those phone are 6+ years old at this point.

Yes, I remember having a iPhone 7. I didn't keep it very long because the update wouldn't allow my phone to update a few years ago.

@Labokachulla I know right! Except I haven't upgraded my phone for the past 4 years now. It was cause I was still getting Apple updates on it, which kept me happy and satisfied that it's still "within the range of a new phone" and isn't too outdated. Well tbh, Apples updates USUALLY last longer than androids, they stop rolling out updates for a little old phones a little sooner. This time round though, Apple disappointed me.

All other phones had a fair share of time for getting upgrades, the iPhone 7 became the outcast for some weird reason. Yeah! I know there's good deals going on, but I think I'll hang onto this phone for a bit longer since not getting any upgrades anymore isn't the end of the world even though it bugs me...

Yes it bugged me too. My favorite phone was the iPhone 4, I loved the design of my phone and how small it was. I was so bummed out when my phone got wet. After that, I haven't been able to enjoy the iphones the same way. Now that there's another with a more square shape I'm going to try and get one. Also, sometimes, I'm not sure if you've noticed but sometimes the phones are slower and they pass as new. The only thing that changes is the memory and the color options of the phones.

@Labokachulaa I loved the design of the iPhone 5S, was very much similar to the iPhone 4. Both were small, cute and compatible. at least they're bringing box-y iPhones back into the new trend. I love the box-y designs than the curved ones. Yeah, I've sort of noticed that, which is why I say it's unfair, cause some of the chipsets are slower than others yet, they get included in major updates, just cause they're recently released phones 😕

Yeah.. they did similar to my $2,500 computers too. They should be locked from being able to do this with items we pay for. Same with my families windows computers.

Yeah, it sucks. We spend way too much on these phones, only for them to stop getting major updates sooner than they should, down the line. It's like they do that to force us to spend more money to get a new one just so we can keep getting and experiencing updates on whatever device we own 😒

You were promised 5 years of software upgrades (from the model launch date), and you got that. I'm not sure why you are so upset - this should have been the expectation given that it's what Apple specifically committed to from the beginning.

I've not had my phone for that long though. I've had it for 4 years now. I bought this phone in 2018. I don't know what they committed to, or what their values were but I'm not one to judge. I'm just saying I don't feel the iPhone 7 range users got a full bang for their buck, since we spend a fortune on these phones more than we do for other phones. Other older phones kept getting updates for a longer period than the iPhone 7 range, I so feel bad for this range. This range was just like the ugly duck, or should I say ducks...

Again, those phones were supported as advertised. When you buy an older phone, you get it at a discount compared to the latest model (you could have bought the iPhone 8 at the time - it would have cost more, but it would still be supported). The reason for the discount is because you are buying well into the supported period.

This is the nature of tech products - technology evolves quickly and old products become obsolete quickly. iPhones are expensive and not everyone can afford a $1200 pocket computer every 5 years. That's the reality.

Yeah, could've. The thing I didn't like about the iPhone 8 range though was that glass back. I'm always dropping phones unintentionally, so I didn't think would've been a good match for me. I preferred the aluminium back over glass. A ton of people still purchase the iPhone 6 range today, even though it's about 7 years old and stopped getting major updates ages ago. I'll admit, I was about to purchase it, before looking into the 7s range. Didn't buy it though as was a little outdated to use in 2018 back then, at least for me. And yeah, I agree with you somewhat on that. Gadgets do evolve and and the old stuff gets thrown away faster than it should.
