Do you think people who post a lot of selfies on social media, or people who ask about how they look online, are insecure, because they put it out there?

Question

SM means social media, of course. I don't assume any insecurity, or that they're doing it for attention, I would actually assume they are confident, and in the case of asking people online, they're just curious. I'm just wondering your opinion?

If you post a lot of pictures it's because you want to be seen, and maybe you think you do look good. Either way there is some need for validation in that. If you're posting pics and asking people how you look it's probably because you still want their validation and approval even if you think you look good. That's still rooted in some form of insecurity that you need to show yourself to the world, or need the world to see you, in order for you to feel good or confident in yourself.

People who know what they are, and happy or confident with it, don't need to make constant displays of themselves.

Potentially, but for me only limited close friends can see my Instagram and it's purely for my enjoyment to enjoy my selfies when I'm out and about either enjoying a meal all to myself or I'm enjoying my own day-trip selfies or night-out selfies. Just for healthy fun, and nothing creepy or cringe or adult content either. I don't use Instagram to post much anyways, and my friends the same are mostly that as well, quiet.

Most pictures are filtered, skin is more smooth and features are more beautiful so they think they themselves in the photos are beautiful, that’s why they post it online.
They want to share with people how beautiful they are.

Depends. Would they be bummed out if others say they look bad or unattractive or average? Do they have too many follow up questions, even if it's a compliment?

they don't have to be insecure. they could be narcissists. and of course one is doing it for attention. if you just wanted to store the picture online, you could use cloud storage. social media posts are inherently created to be seen and hence for attention.

Not necessarily. Some people, especially women, have a very strong exhibitionist streak in them, and they just love showing off their beautiful faces and shapely figures.
