I got a new laptop back in 2018 and I think windows 11 is still the latest operating system. I know my computer is getting old, but even from day one windows 11 is most overly complicated system ever. Even just opening a word document is a pain. I get all these error messages this and that etc.

It's more likely your computer is the problem, rather than Windows 11
If your system was new from 2018 then it's not going to run W11 well.
It came with it when it was new. It has like 500gb of ram
Dont upgrade to windows 11. Stay on Windows 10, especially with an older PC. Many older applications are just not compatible.

Mine also came with windows 11 but I made sure to downgrade to windows 10
Can I download back to 10 without losing everything?
Like documents and such?
I think so. BUT IM NOT 💯. You will need to a bit of research to make sure if you want to do that
