Can anyone with Apple AirPods let me know if music you are listening to on your device (iPhone etc) starts playing out loud if they disconnect?

I am thinking about getting Bluetooth earbuds but I was wondering if: while you are listening to music on them, will the music play out loud on your computer or phone if the Bluetooth earbuds disconnect?

A lot of Bluetooth headphones when disconnected will cause the phone to start playing on speaker, but the Apple AirPods do not. I’ve walked away from my iPhone dozens of times at work and when I came back it was paused. The range on them is actually pretty decent too and I have roughly 5-6 hours battery life still and they’re 2 years old.
