How often do you take a break from social media?

I have a Facebook and Instagram to stay in touch with friends, but don't go on them much anymore. There's too much stupidity, angry people, and negativity on social media these days. I found myself getting into too many debates, arguments, and being insulted by idiots who I made look stupid. I felt like social media was starting to make me as stupid as them. Facebook started censoring me when I posted about the COVID lockdowns being a violation of our rights and that was it for me. Social media tries to manipulate the user with marketing psychology and is overall a very negative experience for a lot of people. I had a lot of fun with it because I would write amusing stories about my daily life for my friends, just to give them a laugh and make their day better. I miss that side of it, but I don't miss the borderline psychological warfare.
Not nearly enough. I think im due for one lol.
welcome back!
Thank you
I missed ya.
Oh and also i do avoid most other social media sites like Facebook. GAG is really the only one lol
In eight years I have taken one year off of GAG twice.
The first time it was just too addictive for me and taking up time I needed to devote to other things.
The second time most recently I was mad at GAG Admin for going into my draft questions and MyTakes that I had spend many hours creating and deleting them all... like WTF?
They blamed it on an auto bot and said I left them in there too long. Not sure if I'm buying it but as Thundermother says... WHATEVER!!

A relaxing or exhilarating weekend in an isolated location helps me take a break from social media.

I did it on purpose and it did have a positive effect. But it wasn't mindblowing. The change in the beginning was cool but once I got used to it, it wasn't that amazing to keep actively avoiding social media all the time. But when I'm being active like traveling and doing a lot or things like that I use that to not be on social media much. I don't think about my phone when I'm doing things it's not like I'm addicted but when you're not doing anything it's harder to avoid the internet.
As for me I went on a social media diet years back & got rid of basically everything & vanished off the face of the earth. I’ll probably vanish off of this soon as well.

HOW WAS JAIL?
I just do other things... have the willpower to avoid social media.
I've known others who less willpower to use tricks... hide your phone and change your computer password to something you can't remember (write it down and hide the paper for later use).
I take some breaks because it's healthy. Even during the summer vacations this year I have merely posted some batches pictures of me and others at places. But not empty out the camera roll kind of things. Kind of let them know you are alive and having fun around the world with people.
Not exactly a break, but today I just deleted facebook from my phone, and made a setting on some apps to notify me after I use them so much. Instagram and Youtube for example have a 20 min notification setting. Just so that I am aware how much I am using them.
Such a waste of time they are. They make others rich at our time expense. For the vast majority that is.
It feels like I do this every two or three months. Seems good for the soul and when I return it's fresh and exciting.
Often. It can be really time consuming.
And your new profile picture is very nice. It is by far my favorite among your profile pics 😍
Thank you so much
You are welcome 😉
I don't have any antisocial media. G@G is the closest thing for me in that regard.
I quit social media 6 years ago. This forum is the closest thing to it.
I try to keep away from social media early in the morning for the most part
I keep social media pretty minimal on the daily. Some platforms like instagram I just don’t check that often at all
I can't remember taking a break as such. If I got irritated by something, I just quit it permanently (example: Instagram and Snapchat)
I only took a break once when I had trouble signing in. After a while I gave up and just opened a new account. Been here ever since.
I only use G@G... and I actually came back just this week from a month-long-hiatus or so... lol
I took a month off not too long ago. It really is good from time to time.
definitely so (=
The trends make me want to delete it. It makes me lose brain cells
Most of the times on the weekends, or when I'm busy with other things.
Like everybody else, I seriously need to take a long break.
I just use it when I feel like it, but don't post anything myself.
Don't use it much really tbh, go on insta now or again
It depends on what you call "social media". I gave up on facebook, and instagram so many years ago, I almost can't remember them anymore.
I take a break from all social media for at least a week a month.
I took 2 years off and it was amazing. I use facebook mostly to keep up with kids schooling
Why'd you come back if it was better without it?
I’m on social media, let me rephrase that, I have the apps but don’t really use them very much. This app is more for entertainment and chatting with people. But this app is pretty light hearted. I stay away from politics and touchy subjects
Oh I gotcha.
Three days a week I'm doing school so I'm out
I delete the apps from my phone.
Once every couple months
Any kind. Never. Youtube. Daily.
Not enough unfortunately
I do take breaks. Not as many as I should.
Almost everyday.
Not as many as I should. I get excited
I quit social media years ago.
You're back from a break I see
wish to off between 9pm to 1am
Often. It's good for mental health.
Not often enough
Try to do that so can do other things in life.
Everyday!
never
