Do cell phones have their pros and cons?

Being updated, telling time, answering calls/texts, and having internet handy (as opposed to racing to a library or home to your computer) is good.

But they can be a total distraction; interfere with your work and driving (causes car crashes), gets you alienated, and unaware of your surroundings.

I take it you mean smart phones, not the phones from 20 years ago? Well, for what it’s worth, they have created the smombie. People that resemble zombies, because they do nothing but stare into that damn screen all day. The worst party/festivity is one that is full of smombies. 🧟‍♀️🧟🧟‍♂️

like anything it is a tool.
I find it ok not to answer it or look at it every time it makes noise.
It is thier for my convenience, and many times I just turn the volume down so I don't hear it.
It is also a good way to waste time when you are bored.

even the same feature can be a pro and a con... for example, distraction

they could be incredibly distracting and get you in trouble for failing at work, school or even on a date... but also, you could be going through a terrible bad time and then having your phone and use it for some distraction could make it a little bit better and sometimes that actually helps a whole lot

A cell phone is a tool, and like most tools, they work best when properly used. And that means not being tied to your cellphone all the time. Treat it well and it will treat you well.

Well, yeah. A lot of things do. But you can limit the cons by setting limits for yourself and being mindful of what apps are stealing your attention. I actually deactivated my Facebook recently because it took up a lot of time, I hardly spoke to anyone in detail, and it just kept making me sad by seeing how others' lives are going.

If it's bad enough you can buy a time-out box to train yourself more. It'll open whenever you set it to open.

Grew up without one. Started coming in when I was in my 20s.

Biggest pro: my son's school can always reach me if there's a problem.

Biggest con: so can everyone else...

I remember life before smart phones and before cellular phones.

Somehow, amazingly, things still got done in the world. People still went to work. Bills got paid. Relationships happened. And life went along just fine until everyone decided it was sooooooooo critical to be constantly plugged in, always available, and tracked by a goddamn spy phone.

I think cell phones are worth the downsides that you mentioned. I can't remember a time when I've been real comfortable not knowing things that I actually needed to know.

Definitely. Just the other day I went across town to the store and panicked when I realized I left my phone at home on the charger. That's when I knew I had become too dependent on having the world at my fingertips.

They are good to have in an emergency. Kids spend too much time on them. They should be smoking cigarettes and talking to each other.

Cell phones keep me too focused on one thing. Being glued to a phone makes it more difficult to relax and enjoy life, to appreciate the beauty around you.
