Is the posting of Porch Pirates videos on social media a violation of their rights?

• I heard on a news story that Canadian Police are questioning if the posting of videos, by the victims of porch pirates stealing packages on social media is a violation of their privacy. Or something like that.
  What say our Northern Neighbors?

The news media release was saying that private individuals posting people’s photos on line during a commission of a crime. Might be in some gray area. Though I do believe in the saying,” Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time!”
Someone needs to stop this crime wave!

A tip for Canadians: we don't have a copyright on the idea of a Constitution guaranteeing individual liberties in the face of government oppression. I can't speak for the whole country, but most of us would be flattered if you copied the idea. Feel free!

Ideally no it should not be, they have committed a crime and lose that entitlement. It does raise the issue of posting camera videos online. If a person has a hot neighbour would it be okay to post them online? Then just take the posting of video camera stuff down the rabbit hole and you can have alsorts of stuff posted.

No more of a violation of the rights of those they steal from. Bottom line: if you don't want your video of you stealing shit from someone's porch, don't do it!!
As far as I'm concerned, if you break the law, you just threw your rights out the window!

What about the rights of the people in places like New York and Chicago where criminals aren't even arrested and are allowed to continue killing and raping random people at will! If so then all video surveillance camera footage from businesses, banks, or intersection cameras should be in violation of our rights too. If someone was stealing my parcels you can be sure the whole neighborhood would have a copy of it.

Yes, putting photos or videos of someone online without their consent is a crime.

Just don't order stuff when you are not home. Or tell the delivery driver he can't put the package on the porch.
