If you want to play VR games, get the Oculus Quest/Meta Quest. (I'm not sure why they changed the name)

If you just want to experience being in a virtual world, shell out ten bucks.

You can't explain virtual reality, you have to experience it. You are faced with two brains. The brain you were born with and your new virtual brain. It's very difficult to handle both of them.

You're in your living room. You know that. Your brain knows that. But then you strap on the Oculus/Meta Quest, and then you no longer believe what you know to be true.

I like Apple, but who could afford that? I recommend that everyone jump on their Amazon app, and buy the cheap version for ten bucks. Go on an elephant safari.
With VR, you're not just watching, you're there.

And I won't lie and tell you this doesn't include bad sites that you shouldn't see. lol

Well, first of all, the apple equipment provides augmented reality and the devices you were talking about provide virtual reality which is technically and visually different. Secondly, the cheap devices that you were referring to do not provide anything like the quality of the experience that the apple equipment can provide.

My dad got one and I used it over the weekend. The videos don't do it justice. The pic although weirdly tilted was me on GAG... sitting in the desert. The other is my girl trying it out. I also liked the emmersive content. There isn't a lot yet but a few series. The dinosaur thing is freaky as heck. Scared me lol. It is so easy to navigate with your eyes and it works seemlessly with the finger pinching. It is really incredible. Unfortunately I can't afford one. I don't use apple other than an iPad but would buy one of those if I had the money.

@msc545 So my dad sent me some screenshots that I asked for. He is using about 24 of the 512GB atm. He said other than a few apps it is just the operating system. Everything else goes to iCloud storage (2 TB) @ $9.99/mo.

He said he has Apple One Premier which includes the Apple TV+ (for all the immersive content) plus normal shows and content. Also includes fitness, arcade, music and news etc and then the 2 TB of storage. He said that is $25/mo but also mentions you can just do storage.

So I guess the bottom line is that not much is actually being stored on the device itself with cloud storage available. He said the onboard storage will be enough if he downloads some movies for travel or whatever.

He did comment that taking “spatial video” with the device takes up a ton of room but it does get offloaded to the cloud.

So there is his explanation if that helps.

Wow, that's a game changer technology. pricy for most, but as price comes down, everything will go there. why buy a big screen.

Can you imagine how this changes:

Meetings, counseling appointments, working remote, porn (big $), design, gaming, Sunday tv surfing, etc..

but ugh... kids are already disconnected using apple ear phones. now they have an apple thing over their eyes. they will exist in lala land all the time. After this is gonna be the "apple" suite to control their body. At some point, the conversion to Darth Vader robots is complete... haha

What is the use case for this? One of the biggest reasons that Google Glass didn't make it over 10 years ago was because people didn't find it useful.

It's cool to be sure but I don't see it being all that helpful for the average person.

If there is a way to make the use camera functions, like translation or measurements hands free I think there will be a market for that though.

For 3.5-4k though, yikes. I guess some Apple zombies won't care about that price because it is Apple but that does not sound like it is worth it.

Somebody I know on here was "borrowing one" from her boss. It seemed pretty awesome, and I don't like apple at all so that says something. That said, I don't know if I can get enough value from it to warrant the price.

@msc545 Sony has a patent on a device that can stimulate the optic nerve using microwaves and you will be able to see video images without a screen. It does not really work and it probably fries your brain but it is someting to think about.

@msc545 He bought the 512GB version that adds couple hundred to it and then the apple care for it. He said he normally doesn’t do the apple care but for this he read that certain repairs could be well over a thousand if something happens like you drop it.
