As a writer, what free app do you use? Is it still popular and free, without any future payment requirements?

I'm looking to make money as a writer and possibly turn it into a career. Could you recommend a free app for adding watermarks to my original work? Also, which free app do you use for embedding specialized metadata? Are these free apps available for iPhones without any future payment obligations?

If you publish and want to earn money with it, you should probably reinvest into a program that helps. That being said microsoft word has probably everything you need. Its not expensive but in my opinion worth it.
For publishing you normally do it in pdf format anyway and acrobat pro has a watermark function. Other than that any free pdf programm will work.
If you have a legit publisher you shouldn't need a watermark as either they will do it or have other options to prevent their publishings being used without consent. Best case they have a legal team.

If you really want free stuff Latex is an option or google docs. Latex is more used for scientific writing but it works for normal writing as well.

You can use Google Docs, but Microsoft Word is better although it pisses me off. There are oceans of improvements that could be made, but they won't make them.

Google Docs is evolving and will get better and, for the most part, it's free. I think there may be an upgrade as part of a Google Workspace thing which involves a few $ / month for all of Google's common apps.

LibreOffice is also free although I have not used it much.

I just downloaded Collabora, the Linux/Chromebook version of LibreOffice (which used to be Open Office). I am just experimenting, but it looks OK so far.

you don't need a watermark if you're submitting to legit publishers

professional writers use Microsoft Word and submit in pdf format

if you must have free, check Open Office and see if it will save in pdf format
