Do you have problems with YouTube Shorts?

When I click on a YouTube Short, it often takes several seconds (sometimes a full minute) to open; sometimes what opens is a completely different Shorts video, or just a black window.

I don't usually have problems with regular YouTube videos, although occasionally they are slow to open too.

Does anyone else have problems with YouTube Shorts?

FYI... I am using Firefox 126.0.1 browser, the latest. There have been discussions about how YouTube delays the display of its videos on Firefox, because YouTube can't determine if Firefox has ad-blockers, and YouTube has a policy against ad-blockers, actually blocking users for violating terms of service if they are using ad blockers with YouTube.

The issue is not just with YouTube Shorts, though it's more noticeable there. It affects regular YouTube videos too. It does not affect YouTube videos on Chrome though.

I examined the code of a few YouTube pages and found in each of them a check to see if it was running in Firefox, and if so, it sets a delay to intentionally slow down the start of the display.

That's crude of Google to force people to use Google's Chrome browser... and borders on being illegal. 🤔

It has also started to happen, though not as often, in Chrome, so I don't think it's a problem with Firefox. Now, occasionally the video stops in the middle for a few seconds, and when that happens, I get a Google pop-up "Having video problems... want to know why?" that complains about my ISP and its handling of videos.

It’s your browser! They want you to use Chrome, so they can get access all your info! I would not be surprised if they were doing it deliberately to make people WANT to stop using Firefox! I primarily use the DuckDuckGo browser, and from what my dad told me back in the 90’s there was something called the browser wars. I can’t remember what he said it was about, and I think the was a Microsoft thing. But I still believe they want you to use Chrome! B’cause, even with DuckDuckGo some sites tell me to turn off my ad blocker, but I can’t. If I can, I don’t know how ¯\_(ッ)_/¯ ! Besides, I wouldn't even if I could, I hate Chrome!

I pay for YT +, so I don’t get ads anyway, and they don’t check, so DuckDuckGo works fine. But if I were a betting person, i’d bet they are deliberately screwing w/ you just to get you to stop using an independent browser. Stick to your guns, and do not give in especially not just for YT shorts. I love TikTok, but YT isn't TikTok, they never will be, and I don’t know why they are going after the TikTok demographic… we’re NOT ever leaving TikTok for YouTube ¯\_(ッ)_/¯ Even with me being the EXACT demographic they want, I still hate YouTube shorts. they are rarely original content, they're just clips from other channels, I can’t sub JUST to the shorts, they’re recycled content with maybe sometimes the channel owner speaking like an auctioneer to explain the clip as fast as they possibly can… That's why I like TikTok, they do their thing, the don’t clip something that they need to explain to give it the context we need to understand what happened!

I’m really sorry you are having this problem, it’s gotta suck, and I genuinely hope you get a solution! I know how bad It is when something you like doesn't work the way it’s supposed to, and you think YOU are the only person who is experiencing it, and in my case, I even felt bad asking for help. So I really hope this gets fixed! You deserve to use the platform YOU want, with whatever BROWSER you want to use, Tom!

Hello Crazy , i might add during the late period of the browser wars unfortunately Duckduckgo succumbed to its 'injuries' 🤷🏽‍♂️

i remember it like it was yersterday when google gave out PROPER SEARCH RESULTS back in the late 90s

unfortunately Microsoft didn't like the idea of being exposed through search engines like google, who where becoming a vast amount of useful information (TREASURE TROVE FOR JOURNALISTS AND TRUTH SEEKERS)

the plug had to be pulled out for google as it was more popular then its contenders like Yahoo etc etc

google jumped ship and privately sold out its soul to . . . 🤷🏽‍♂️ private corporates (🤫 Microsoft)

But i’ve found nothing to indicate that it’s owned By Google, or Alphabet, or XXVI Holdings inc. Which are the order of the Google ownership hierarchy.

Alright folks... just use Vivaldi or Brave browser. And if you need to use a search engine, searX is a good choice for privacy (or again, Brave search).

i use firefox on mobile devices and PC

the problem is simply that google bought YT and they are pushing their cyberwar on consumers, firefox is a good search engine but its also amongst the few competitors google empire is struggling to control,

firefox has a lot of open source software written by independant developers , this gives, them an upper edge on surfing the net without being entangled by googles commercial jumbo ads fiasco bs

long story short your ver. of firefox is up to date however you might have been traced as a malicious user by google , sadly firefox doesn't always check contributions done by independant coders and developers 🤷🏽‍♂️

i had to remove a lot of adblockers from firefox as some of the add-ons are spyware or malicious scriptz,

had google kept its nose out of the consumers privacy we wouldn't have AI , or a cyberwar , no browser is safe from googles control of information flow regardless of how good a developer maybe he/she will not be allowed to flourish and is subjected to share their softwares source codes etc etc

that means you are the only one with the problem bcoz your firefox has add-ons that google empire doesn't approve of 🤷🏽‍♂️ , pay your rent and watch the ads simple ,😂

or simply have your machine hacked and slowed down for using a different browser, welcome to animal farm firefox user

YT uses codec that doesn't correspond to VP9 norm that google developed by themselves. Firefox fix for this problem will take a while. Google will force users to castrated add blocker browsers like chrome

I quit Firefox because of issues like that and switched to Brave. Never had a problem since.

Get yourself 'Noscipt' version 11.429 ad- on Tom. It is a Javascript blocker. If you set it up correctly, you won't see those messages on you tube again, as it blocks them at source.

That's why I refuse to use Chrome. I don't use google, either! They really suck when it comes to doing a search!! Like, 4 hours ago, I wanted to know the hours of the local Domino's on Sunday so, I did a general search for local Domino's which I suspect is actually google and it gave me several options to click on that ALL claimed they take me to another page that'd show me a list of all the local Domino's. I clicked on one and it took me a Domino's order page! I don't yet WANNA order!! I just want to find out their hours, first! So, I closed that and clicked on "Domino's near me", It took me to ANOTHER page of the exact same links I just came from!! Any of THOSE will take me to the same places I just was!!
But, if I search at Bing, I get EXACTLY what I want on the first search in a split second!
