Some kind of warning system or a reminder or alert on your phone, or if the car detects weight on the seat when the engine is off it can call you or text you or sound an alarm or call 911 even.
There must be some technology that can prevent this.

Just an idea but they could put sensors in the seat to measure weight and internal temp of the car easily. Regarding it being able to call 911 the tech is there already with things like OnStar. You're absolutely right though. Something needs to be installed to help this from happening to kids or even pets.
Thanks for the MHO!
Why not car seat makers? Blu Tooth enabled and connected to your car. So that if you turn off your car with a child in the seat it sends a text message to your phone to get your kid out and then 5 minutes later asking if you got your kid out.

I guess a IR presence sensor coupled with temperature sensor that sends a signal to open all windows or forces air conditioner to run, isn't difficult to make. However a error in this system could make a lot of damage in case of rain and it would make thieves their job easier.
It is a metal box with windows acting like a greenhouse. Cars aren’t meant for human stupidity.
“Why don’t cars have something to prevent drunk driving?”, “Why don’t cars have something to prevent running a stop light?” We can ask these questions all day however it is all humans faults / disasters and there really isn’t much you can do except hold these bastards accountable in the court system.
@rachel776 Actually there's some patents made for this.. like a little wire that you hang on your car keys and connect the other side to the baby seat and then when you take out your key you gotta disconnect them from you baby's seat. That way you never forget. Lol
Well from the suggestions you've made one aspect is that it would require a constant power drain on the batteries which could cause issues. And I guess it depends on the statistics. We reduce car accidents as they are so common and many happen a day with deaths to injuries. I've not seen stats of kids dying due to being left in cars but I guess if it's not a high enough number they won't look to try and change it.
There is also the fact that it's more on the failings of the parent in that case as well is how they will see it.
Because we assume that parents of these kids are smart enough, responsible enough and aware enough to understand you don’t leave a kid in a hot car. It’s not the fact that we need alarms. We need more responsible adults adulting and taking care of there kids
we have seatbelts, airbags, auto-lock doors, head rests, auto-headlights, warnings if you are too close to other cars, low fuel warnings, I think we can have a safety system to save kids lives. I can't believe there is so much resistance to an idea like this when people "should be" smart enough but kids keep dying
Myself I find it hard to believe you forget or leave a child in your car but I have heard where there is some technology some cars that remind like a buzzer that everyone is out of the car. It should be required or something more technologically advanced to remind them about a child in the back.
The power is off. The ceramic tint thing could help. Generally I don't think that people who leave their children in cars in the heat are here mentally. It is also probably not an action of an educated person. These people are not in the newest modern cars.
They shouldn't have to. Stupid pre occupied parents are the blame. If that was the case, you would get in your car, enter an address and your car would drive you following all the state mandated motor vehicle laws. Including seat belts, following distances, posted speed limits, passing zones etc.
Some cars do have seat sensors now, they are working on it. I just don't see how this many people can forget.
there's a bridge in North Carolina trucks keep hitting. they've got signs and traffic lights and warning lights and bright colors, but trucks keep hitting it. they even raised the bridge a foot one time even though there's a railroad track on top of it, and trucks are still hitting it. i duck in my own car when i go under the parking garage bar at The Grove

Good point! A motion sensor in the car when the heat inside exceeds a threshold would help. I know Teslas already have a heat sensor that simply turns on the air conditioner at a temperature you set such as 100 degrees.
They're not asking about duty, duty has nothing to do with it. It's an innovation that would save lives.
Car makers came up with seat belts, baby seats, air bags, breakaway engines, reinforced frames. For SAFETY. Was that their duty?
I think they probably assume, if you know how to drive then you have more than 1 brain cell.. Which as we both know is never safe to assume!
How about not leaving the kid in the car in the first place, doesn't matter how quick you think you are going to back.
I haven’t read all the comments to see if this has already been said. But one of Tesla’s features is identifying if someone (or pet) is in the vehicle and maintain the climate control automatically
Yeah get rid of electronics and replace it with crank windows like in the good old days!
Motion detected air-conditioning would already be a huge help.
It would not be that tough. Most vehicles now have idiot lights for low tire pressure , seat belt for front passenger if any weight is on the seat, etc.
I agree with you. Something needs to be done but I think no matter what they came up with, there will be someone who will figure out how to bypass it.
What a waste of resources. Why not the educate the parents when it comes to leaving their children in the car? If it's that hard to just bring their kids with them, they don't need to make children.
We are overpopulated and it's a cause of inflation.
I like where you're going with this, at a minimum I think cars should roll off the assembly line with ceramic tint
There is a technology that can prevent this. It's a technology that's been around for millions of years. It's called "non-shitty parents."
Or make people take a common sense test before allowing them to reproduce
Why do you not put full blame in the parent? You can't idiot proof everything.
Make it the death penalty to the irresponsible birther, allowed to be administered by a cop at the scene to prevent it happening
People wouldn't pay extra for such a feature.
The majority of things would make it easier to be stolen maybe but I agree with you definitely
Ok i think you don't really realise some people don't care so unless it is a system made by the manufacturer and something that is made to be done by law then it's probably not going to happen is it..
It is not their duty.
