Cars will be coming with "Cabin Awareness" to prevent people from leaving their kids in a hot car. How much will this add to the price of a car?

I'd say at least 10k, childseats are cheap molded plastic which is easily cracked and cannot be resold, they're expensive. First the R&D costs would have to be recouped, then since it's a system for when the car is off larger batteries, timers, weight sensors, sound sensors tuned for specific frequencies, also thicker glass to isolate noise from outside more along with coatings for that.

You'd also need to add another module to the car besides the PCM, ECM, BCM, ABS, and whatever other computers are running your car and have it work in tandem. The funniest thing is how useless of a technology it is. If people are going to neglect their children, they're going to do so, and communities will respond to it, or they won't.

Having a safety system in a car when people are more willing to break windows for dogs rather than kids in the summer is just ludicrous. Also how will it alert other people, refuse to start the car, call 911?

It's going to be a big wet fart and more incentive not to buy cars made in the US.

At least a couple thousand! The last 4 cars I bought came with "locking lug nuts" that added $1500? to the price during the purchase. The dealers (2 different dealers) refused to switch them. The manufacture forces you to buy them and they add them on at the end. 😡

I bought bigger wheel and tires for my Scout. I bought locking lug nuts as an aftermarket thing and they were less than a hundred bucks.
The ones you have probably could be unlocked with the key fob. Totally unnecessary.

That key is in every glove box. I pay for insurance, so the last thing I'm worried about is the wheels getting stolen. I don't even lock my house. 🙅

It would probably be around 4 grand. I wonder how it would work. Is there an alarm that would go off letting you know someone is in the back seat, one that would wake up a sleeping child? Does it sense the weight in the seat like the seat belt reminder? What if it's an adult that doesn't want to go in the store? What if you have packages instead of a child on the seat?

It senses somebody's breathing. Then the flashers go off and the horn blows. Then if it fails it shows up in the chip and you can't get a sticker until you get it fixed. It is a ripoff.

The sensors will cost OEM under ten dollars. Selling it as an extra feature, I'm guessing between 150-250 dollars, depending on the brand.

There is no such thing as free. It ends up being part of the MSRP like air conditioning and power windows and air bags These things add thousands to the cost of a car and customers have no option not to get them.

I would never leave America but I bet somebody could market a pickup truck with no A/C, power windows, air bags, Sunroofs, remote starters and all the other stuff they make you buy. They could sell this for 25-30. You could not make enough of them.

Well airbags are a safety requirement, but the rest you still can go without. Just need to order it that way, dealers rarely stock bare bones trucks

If it's a chinese corporation then it won't add more than 500 dollars on the cars price but if the manufacturer is from the usa or Europe they won't accept to add less than 10000 dollars
