MacBook Air, dell vostro or dell latitude for film editing?

I want to sell my apple products to get a computer like vostro or latitude to be able to invest in a higher ram and better intel core chip device, any suggestions or should keep the MacBook?

Get a Mac with the m2 chip. It’s a no brainer. Nothing competes in power and battery life. You’ll be able to render clips, watch tutorials on YouTube and do so unplugged from the wall for like 10 hours at a time.

The new m chips pool memory together in an intuitive way, just get whatever you can afford. If you’re looking for “more” and you’re editing 4k or less, you should be just fine with 32 gb ram if you want your investment to last longer especially since people are really starting to shoot a lot of 6k now you could go with the 64 gb.

It’s not just that it’s faster. They are using a totally new technology where the power draw is significantly less for about double the performance. And your ram is shared with the graphics card. This means that if you have 32gb of ram, your graphics card isn’t just limited to 2 or 4 gb anymore. It can be whatever is leftover in the ram.

This is a huge deal as the resolutions get bigger. I edit a lot of 6k footage in black magic raw and it was bringing very expensive workstations to its knees.

The macpro eats it for breakfast.

It’s also a big deal that you can just unplug it, keep it in your bag and edit anywhere for hours.

I would take windows over apple any day lol. Although Microsoft has gotten downhill in recent years. I think windows 9x was my personal favorite. Windows xp and windows 7 were very good. Windows 8 is when it just started going downhill. My new custom-built desktop uses windows 11 and it's ok but it takes a few hours to debloat and customize it the way i like but once you do it's actually pretty good.

How much ram and storage does Your MacBook have? If it has very little ram and storage, then I'd replace it with a Windows laptop. Are you dead set on a Dell laptop or are you open to other brands? FYI, I'd avoid Intel chips, they are currently plagued with stability issues and pretty high failure rates. You always have the option to get a Windows laptop with a Ryzen processor, I just bought one and it awesome. Any particular specs you're looking for? What is your budget?

Yes, sell the MacBook and get a Windows laptop. What is your budget? Ryzen can be cheap if you know where and what too look for. Recently purchased a Ryzen laptop from Walmart for $360, gas a 8 core Ryzen processor paired with 16 gigs of upgradable ram. What Intel laptops are you looking at that are cheap? Most of the sub $300 Intel laptops are going to be painfully slow for video editing.

honestly, if film editing is litterally all you wanna do, i think the choice shouldn't be between dell or apple when it comes to hardware. more between final cut pro, vegas pro, adobe premiere or davinci resolve. cause if you wanna use final cut pro, you gotta go for apple anyway. with all the other options, you can go for the cheaper dell.

No, if it has very little ram, not worth keeping as MacBooks have the ram soldered to the motherboard meaning it can't be upgraded. I'm guessing your MacBook has 8 gigs of ram?

When getting a better device, I'd opt for AMD over Intel, as Intel is dealing with massive stability issues and failures. And make sure to either get one with at least 32gig or the is upgradeable as some laptops have the RAM soldered. Also avoid any laptops with windows s mode, windows s is a version of windows that's locked down to where you can only install programs from the Microsoft store.

Which country are you from? Could explain the high prices for Ryzen. If Intel is way cheaper than Ryzen in your country, then avoid 13th and 14th gen and go with a 12th gen Intel as they are not affected by the instability and failures.
