Imagine, the general public, you, loses permanently your internet access, its over. What will you miss or appreciate given this new situation?

Note: I'm really curious about what the youngsters here will say in this scenario, as we, elders, already knew the pre internet era, its easier for us to imagine.

Now here is what will happen, briefly, dont read if you want to imagine the consequences yourself, spoilers:

Your desktop is now an offline station
Your smartphone becomes dumbphone again!

no more wikipedia, there's a library
no more social medias, silence!
no more wetflix, buy DVDs
no more gps, paper maps
no more online shopping, move your butt
no more uber, go to the restaurant
no more online dating, sorry introverts
no more MMOs, play solo
no more Hub, erotic magazines ew
no more...

Why this situation you ask? Maybe because resources would not anymore be as abundant as they were, maybe because heating up all those servers and scripts and AIs 24/7... you know, that's a hell of a lot of energy for such trivial uses! For the sake of pseudo-realism, let's say that a part of the world still operates with internet, maybe banks and govs? But not you, not the general public ! You are back to pre-internet, the 1980's, but better haircuts, and goth crocs !

Yes the internet makes things much easier, but coming up before the internet became the norm, I think my family could live without it. We all have these $1000 + smart phones and 95% of the time I just use it for a normal phone call and I will use the timer for remembering meetings and such. k GPS which I don't equate with the phone yes I would miss that huge plus in our cars, however I do keep a current road map book in car as well for looking up locations.

I think it is absolutely stupid of the retail business placing there entire business on the internet and when there is a power failure the registers, phones, won't work and they are out of business. The Restaurant/Bar that I run we have set up a total manual system to keep business operating along side of our computer operation.

I would both love and hate the scenario. While I have no issues surviving whatsoever and actually enjoy going out to get all of my things physically, I would greatly miss my access to social media. It's how I stay in touch with people; I love talking to people. Also, I just sold my CD collection a few months ago, so I would be pretty much out of music 💀💀💀

I would also miss talking to random people, I really appreciate this hobby, I can still do it live, but, even in the diverse city I live in, the diversity sample would be diminished as well as my possibilities to engage :/

Music, damn yes, very annoying, I would miss the YT algorithm really, this is how I get my influx of new sounds since years, I could probably go the former way by... engaging with independent CD stores? Yes that could work I think. Except the tons of video game music covers I listen to, them would disappear entirely I think

I remember the times just before the internet and when we got these slow ass modems, that make weird signal sounds when dialing in.

But not much that I can say how it was. I was very young, had zero money and was socially ostracized. One thing's certain and that is that people were not smartphone zombies addicted to social media and oversharing everything.

The internet is certainly what I consider a must have convenience thing. In fact I'm making what little money I make with it and I can sit at my home.

Will I survive without the internet? In German or English speaking regions it's a yes.

It is possible to imagine internet WITH privacy, in fact it was like that at the beginning !

For the first 10 years at least, now bringing back privacy probably means a downgrade, if not disappearance, of many internet features we currently use. Considering that the big money comes from tolerated privacy breaching by the general public
