Strangely enough I was impacted by this power outage as I had a distance meeting with folk I am to be working with in the Autumn and they didn't show up online and only afterwards did I find the reason.
As for the potential to live without electricity, I probably could as long as I had the means at my disposal to get the camping and outside living resources in advance. Like do I have enough resources lying around to live indefinitely in case power just stops? NOT right now but I could make it for a few weeks just with the stuff around me.

7 moIt would take some getting use to. Learning how to do things without power. People used to do it so it can be done but it would definitely take some time. Cooking and clothes washing might be the biggest adjustment. No electric stove, no washing machine. You'd have to cook by fire and wash clothes by hand. I'd have to install some clothes lines for clothes to dry.

You've been losing power?
What is going on, in the Iberian Peninsula? - 7 mo
No I haven't. I have a solar implant so I don't really suffer from power outages. But I heard on the news how Spain and Portugal were left without electricity and that's why I asked the question.
As we have a rather powerful portable generator for our motorhome, I guess being careful how we use it for powering the essentials such as the fridges/ freezers etc. we could probably just about cope... Definitely more a question for my husband to answer. lol
How about your goodself @thegreenyogi

@thegreenyogi That's definitely the way to be going these days.

@EmmaMary Absolutely. I have been living this way for the past 22 years and what's more a lot of my electronic devices are rechargeable which means that if electricity finishes I don't need to worry because things like lights or television work without power for so many hours. I wish more people lived this way because they wouldn't panic so much when these things happen. Xxx

@thegreenyogi Are you totally self reliant, dealing with waste and water supplies? Do you have enough power for the car. I'm very impressed if you can do those things too.
- 7 mo
@Sunrising Yes I can do all those things. I am completely self reliant.

Gosh... Thank you so very much indeed @thegreenyogi for the MHO. xxx
7 moI would be fine without the internet but electricity? No, I have an electric oven and very few pantry foods. I would end up leaving my home entirely

Spain came to a halt, and the World would stop too. I think I would miss heating and lighting, and probably food production eventually. I would have problems with water, sewage and rubbish collection. They're all I suppose manageable, but could you live without GAG's? My life revolves around GAG's my World would come to a end 😭

Lol!! I would certainly miss it and miss the people I enjoy talking to on here but I'd learn to live without. It's mind over matter after all!!🤭

7 moHumans lived without electricity for millennia. We'd survive.
Several years ago, an ice storm took down power in the area for days. We survived, doing things the old fashioned way... candles for light, cooking on a fire, playing cards for entertainment, etc. Most importantly, neighbors helped neighbors.

7 moSure, I've done it plenty of times voluntarily for a few days or weeks at a time. In the military. As a backpacker and mountain climber since my teens. Disconnecting from the grid can be a really relaxing way to spend some time. And a way to heighten your awareness of the natural world around you.
Are you asking about going off grid permanently? Like a post apocalyptic world? Yeah, I could do it. You'd be surprised how easy it is to adapt to life without technology when you have to.

7 moElectric power? No (video games are my passion, I both play and make them, my art is for them, most of what I do and who I am revolves around them).
But internet? Easily, the internet has made gaming and shopping worse. I'd dismantle the entire internet myself if I were given the green light to do so.
10 Reply 452 opinions shared on Technology & Internet topic. Could I? Yes. I have done so for a week or more at a time on several occasions.
That said, I much prefer power and Internet, and I can't do my job without those.30 Reply
7 moI would prefer a society without it. I think I would have thrived more. Society is getting too far away from a society that resonates with the human soul.

But there we had electric power, it would be more difficult without it.
