Could you live without internet?

I lived like 16, 17 years without it, and really more like 20 before it was anywhere near as functional as it is today. The internet, along with mobile phones…. I kind of pine for the days when we didn’t have that stuff. I miss disconnecting with people and the world when I wanted to, and all expectations not being on-demand. You did things “the long way” a lot of the time, but people were more patient. I don’t like this go-go-go-go!!! pace the world works at now, because when you want to know something, you can find out in seconds. Obviously there are many advantages to that, but I hate that everyone expects you to be moving a mile a minute in the Internet Age. I’m a slow and deliberate guy, I take my time doing things, I don’t like to be on anyone’s timetable but my own, and I feel like the respect for that way of operation left with the advent of the internet. I know this is a little out of bounds in terms of what you’re probably asking, but I just view it as collateral damage to our way of life, that wouldn’t exist without the internet.
I used to work in elementary and middle schools. One denyed the right to use phones in break times, others accepted it.
The one that denied it, was filled with laughter, sports fields filled with games, and so on. The other, that allowed phones, had hallways filled with students sitting in rows, like cyborgs in a warehouse. Everyones focus was on their phones. It was quiter than a school without teachers and students. The sound of silence was disturbed.
The internet does have few good things in it, but overall, there's more life in the outdoors.
The internet is a powerful tool and I use it daily. There is no way I could apply for jobs, contact friends and family, attend meetings, shop for certain items, find out information quickly and easily.
Since there are no longer phone books, if I need a telephone number, I have to look it up on the internet. It's impossible NOT to use. It is a necessity. If I need facts about a company I'm researching, a quick lookup of a fact on a bird outside my window. It is a wonderful source of knowledge at your fingertips.
You can live without it, but I prefer not to. It is a source of jokes, facts, GPS and Google earth directions. Packs a big punch.
Everyone was fine without it. But once you have something, it feels like a base need.
The internet is not fire, water... and I don't know what else. But it's the most valuable (and addictive) tool currently being used by close to everyone on the planet (save for apparently Africa).
I personally can't imagine life without it. Or a computer. They both give me the tools for mental stimulation, and communication and socializing with others. It's a pretty amazing invention.

yes... I am old enough to remember how life was without internet-being-so-essential-to-everything-we-do
and nowadays I could be able to do most of my job with just phone lines, I would get by
if the question were to be would I want to live without the internet? no, I would not like that because many of my friends live further apart and this is how I keep in touch with them almost on a daily basis... and not just my friends, same goes for all of you wonderful online people around the world... I would not want to go without you all
Yes. Life was so much better without internet, cell phones, cable TV etc. It was nice because I had to figure out other things to do with my time. I was influenced by my own exploration of topics rather than a carbon copy from some other idiot. Being in nature and unplugging is the best way to see the world as it is.
To be honest it will be great as there will be no online classes and it will be a great excuse for not updating the teacher and sending homework. But I can't live without gaming and at the same time I could engage myself in playing piano, reading novels, pranking sister and writing stories and poems. It would be more boring than nice anyway.
Definitely. I survived 30 years before its invention. I'm damn sure I could live without it.
It should be a tool, not an addiction. A way to communicate with people we know, not another method for the unscrupulous to flood into our homes uninvited.
I use things like WhatsApp to stay in touch with my friends overseas. I have no interest in most of the crap that gets pushed at me through social media.
As it is now I need it for my studies given that the pandemic has us wholly online. Even if we're not having our studies on distance, we still have all our systems of grading, assignments and libraries online. The fact is actually; living without the Internet would be much healthier for humans. But it's already integrated as an essential for the whole world to continue spinning.
We can. We just have to get used to living the way we live again before internet and it be more interesting more face to face conversations, more time ith family, phone conversations like before, more personal visits and more in touch with your human side not your technology side of you. We can become less self absorbed, less attention seekers or crave for LIKES and mroe down to earth.
A few years ago when I first split up with my ex-wife I was without internet for a few months and it was great. I got a lot of stuff done, read books, watched DVDs, played old games and generally enjoyed myself. Now that I work from home most of the time I definitely couldn't live without it.
If i had too than yes...
Already lived all my childhood without internet cause there was no internet back in the 80's in my country 😄
Now if i have to live without the net i prefer to be married because no net no wife, life can be so boring and lonely...
I can't. I need to search up or google every little thing that comes in mind. There's shows, movies, news, social media. I seriously could not give that up. I don't mind going days without social media but I need the rest.
I could do it but I wouldn't be happy about it. I guess I'd read a lot of books and magazines and stuff. Honestly almost anything is possible if the consequences are bad enough if you don't do it ^^ But if you left it up to me then I don't think it will happen ^^
Yes; but it'd be boring and people suck. For all the stupidity and crap that's on the internet, I'd say it has made life better overall.
You just inspired me to ask a question, missy.
Managed for a couple of decades without it before the www was mainstream in the 90s, life is different now with it. Personally I'd prefer it if it was never created, life was better before the internet. Geez how old do I sound right now 😂😂😂
It will be difficult to get many important things to get done.
But yeah without internet maybe we'll be actually doing our tasks, chores and goals.
No more overthinking, dawdling on mobile phones to avoid the reality, etc.
Life would be so much better without it I would love to be in the days when the Renaissance where around and knights and stuff and rather worry about wolf's and hunting than some creep harassing me over the internet. I would like to be a cowboy a knight a hunter or a good pirate I would've f*** black beard up if I was around in them days 😁 lol.
Yes for sure because I always have things to do there's only one drawback for me and that is becoming friends with somebody far away that truly mean something to me that would be heartbreak for me
no. I'd be incredibly lonely without my best friend my one and only friend. I'd even consider going to meet her in real life jus to be with her... But I'm incredibly awkward in real life that I probably wouldn't do that... I'd jus feel extremely lonely... I'd maybe kill myself... But I guess I could still text her or write her letters...
The internet is a tool for accessing information. What kind of information you seek shows what kind of person you are and what aspects of life you're concerned with.
Intelligent life is becoming harder to find.
I would like to say no but we can all adapt. If people did it before, we can do it again.
I'd worry since most of my money is digital, without internet paper money may not fair too well either, but it would ideally work better than bartering.
i had nearly 35 years without it... i think life was more fun before. ironically social media has made people less sociable and the promise of endless information has been more used as a means of spreading missinformation.
Yea I absolutely love living life without internet for a while to see what will change or happen, however everything in today’s world is about internet what can we do ?
I would love to say yes, but that would be a lie.
It is nice to have time away from the internet though for a 1/2 day - full day now and then.
Go old school with a DVD rather than sreaming
I didn't realize how old my modem was until it failed. Until I got it replaced, I was climbing the walls. The worst part was that I was looking for work at the time. I'd ask a local establishment if they were hiring, and they would always say "Fill out an application online and if it looks good, we'll give you a call."
They always gotta screw us over like that-
@maddie2003 I don't follow. Who are "they"? Hiring managers or modem manufacturers?
Both. They're just looking for a way to make money.
If they stopped requiring it every where then yeah,
Without a doubt. Once spent 36 days away from even electricity. Boiling my water. Fishing and trapping for food. Internet was never on my mind.
Yes but I couldn't do my proffession without it. So it's not something I will cut from my life.
I could, but it would be quite miserable, at least in the beginning.
Yes I could but I would be bored. Also finding interesting people to meet would be much harder.
I think we could! We all could!
But I didn't say it would be easy!
I think it would be a great idea for us to be prepared for it, in case it ever happened...
If you count it being ok for work. I would survive without it
Objectively I could, but I just wouldn't. Most my income comes from the internet. Until I have enough money in my index fund that will remain to be true
Living before something is around is different from living with something for a good amount of time and then having it taken away.
Applying for jobs, booking a flight, buying tickets (music, sports, plays etc) are 3 examples of things you would need the internet for.
Going out hiking, bicycling, spendingtime in graveyards cleaning headstones, listening to records, playing console games, & working on crafts... yep, i could do that
At this stage of life, no. It would mean I'd have to go into the office instead of working from home. And every time I've gone into the office (once a week) I don't accomplish a damn thing.
I've already lived a part of my life without it, and people lived without it for centuries, so technically yes, I could. I'd be lonely as fuck but I could.
Absolutely. I wouldn't enjoy it as much without access to near-infinite information, but I would absolutely survive :)
jup. but i have the advantage, that i was born before the internet was even around.
I heard about the internet when I was 16. So I have experience on how to live without it.
I've already done that for the first 14 years of my life, and tbh, it was better. The internet would need to shut down or gaming would need to no longer require internet again in order for me to go back to that though.
Yeah.. I do even remember a time without it in my daily life :D but it is a big step back to less efficient solutions.. would be silly. Though, I do enjoy getting off the grid in shorter periods now and then :)
If the internet disappeared I could get by with out it.
No, but only because my job is heavily centered around it.
Yeah I've gone without internet many times although possibly not now since I have so much money in the stock market
Not since the internet has basically almost replaced reliance on books. How else will I get knowledge. 😨
would I want to? NO but if i did i figure out some way to live
Lets put it this way... Can the internet survive without us?
Absolutely love it💯
This guy gets it.
@Slayerrrrrrr Thank you!
Much deserved
No I need it for my job. but I can live without social media
Lol!!! As Master and Big Online Presence Plus---LDR right Now---NO!!! lol!!! xxoo
I have to say, we did live full and interesting lives before the WWW came to the masses!
No chances. I make my daily living thanks to technology and the internet 💰💰
I'm a professional technologist.
Life without the internet was a lot less interesting
Because I grew up without the Internet, but it would be harder now not to have Internet!
Probably but it would definitely be a huge adjustment and take some time to get used to.
Yes I just got internet for the 1st time two years ago. Still dont own a cellphone yet either
Easily. What I couldn't live without is electricity.
I lived for many years without it. I could do it again.
Lived withouth it for more than 15 years, I think I can do it again.
not at all because i dont have someone to play boards games with...
I used to play video games now I am hooked on the internet
Could.
It is news, emails, books/encyclopedia mostly for me.
Oh, forums as well, but that predates http
