Is there life without the internet?

Question

We lost the internet for a few hours here (Not uncommon in these parts) and I laughed @ myself 'cuz my initial reaction was panic. Like, omg, how am I going to check G@G?(My new addiction 🤣) Then I just went outside like usual and somehow amazingly survived. We really don't use internet much here. My phone is used just as a phone/camera. I never text or do anything online with it (And forget it half the time anyway) I use my pc for research/movies/email etc and pay a couple of bills with it. That's about it. I often leave it on as a scurry through my day (I mostly work at home this time of year) and check it here and there but, like today, if it goes out it's not that much of a big deal. 🤷‍♀️

I know my area is an exception to most. Like if the internet goes out in someplaces it's almost the end of the world. No banking, etc. So, how about you? Is there life without internet?

Yes there is. Some of my best days are going place that don't have it and relaxing and hiding and it's quiet.

Amazing Hunting and Fishing locations along with camping and many mountains and canyons with out it and many humans as well.

Cash is still cash with being plastic and need for connections. Pens and pencils still work when you need to write things down and make notes or let someone how you feel about them, mail a letter or card with meaning based on your words and written statements!

Connect with people in person in locations that shouldn't need wifi

Not really. Now that shopping and banking is mainly online I don't see how you would survive.

I do love the idea. I have plenty hobbies without wifi that could keep me busy. Only problem is that I probably wouldn't have a job anymore, that would make life quite a bit harder. And I also wouldn't be able to finish my study for a while since everything heavily relies on my phone, computer and an internet connection.
But a phoneless vacation does sound reallg nice to me.

Of course i remember those days (mid 1990s) when the internet sucked so bad. I'm used to replacing being online with a hobby. When im offline I grab myself a few hard drinks, sit outside, and hear the wind blow on the trees as I randomly think about things. I was so addicted to smart devices that interestingly I'm getting kinda bored now. I only use my phone or tablet for gps or look up information about a place.

Life was better before internet / social media ever became a thing , people actually interacted with each other more in person , instead of over a computer screen , People were more productive and outgoing. because they weren’t glued to their phones or computers , when we went out in public , I we actually looked at each other and talked , now people Are face planted on their phones not knowing what is going on around them ,

Hell very dodgy electricity too

There was plenty of life

In fact slow internet was superior to fast internet

Because every search counted
Every short video took time to lead
Things had weight, meaning, substance.

Now it’s the dead internet theory come to life

The internet is one of the worst things to happen to society (smartphones too). People would be much more likely to have happy, successful, long term relationships if they gave up smartphones, but they won't because most people value that more than anything else in life. It is pretty sad really.

Along time ago iif I couldn't get on line for what ever reasons  A little bit of anxiety But almost close 26 years now , I quit watching t v so   It mean I use my phone for another of this but I'm not to worried about it anymore   I stay busy all the time anyways  But it's kinda a life line in many ways. I guess especially if I'm looking to flirt with somebody to meet new friends.

I'm a Millennial. We grow with technology. Technology was just starting when we were just starting. We started school without cell phones. Until I was 14 (2005), my family had 1 cell phone between the four of us. The internet was invented in our lifetime; we were alive before it existed. We can live without it.

Yea, power outages are a good reality check. First, it's panic, which makes you realize how big a part tech makes in your life. Then if it goes on long enough, like several days or a week, you realize that you don't really need it.

I'm Gen X, I was around before Internet, cell phones, cable, and even color TV and microwaves.

I would be just fine.

And I can drive a manual transmission, I got it all covered.

But I'll admit, life wouldn't be the same without it.

I've seen things that you can see on the internet yeah, but there is breathing in the smells of nature such as a state park nature trail.
The internet is almost everywhere these days tho.

That's funny I had a similar crisis a few years back when I had to send my phone in for repairs , that would be the same phone i swore at, and kept complaining about , but oh man take it away for a few days and its like my dog ran off.

I’m comfortable with reading. Problem is, loss of internet access is often associated with loss of power. It’s difficult to read by candlelight and i don’t have one of those book lights.

I lived almost 30 years without it. I don't miss it if I can't access it for a while.  It's unhealthy not to unplug at least one day a week - more ideally.

They're definitely would've been more genuine life if it was never created but I believe in the phrase "the phone goes both ways" without the Internet their would be a lot of difficulty BUT not if it was never created because we wouldn't know of it.

Yeah, there’s definitely life without the internet — I remember it. I was in high school when DSL first came out, so I grew up right on that edge between no internet and dial-up life. Back then, we actually hung out — playing “cloud of dust” ball with friends, or having these huge street-wide hide-and-seek games that went late into the night. It was simple, but it felt full. So yeah, life without the internet was real, and honestly, pretty great in its own way.
