I've been having an odd issue where when I send a message it will automatically show as a new message and it's just the message that I just sent out. What's up with this?

Dude what? That's so weird, I've never heard of Facebook doing that before. A couple things it could be:
- It's possibly a glitch in the Messenger app. Tech stuff can bug out sometimes. I'd try closing and reopening the app or maybe even reinstalling it to see if that fixes it.
- Your connection could be wigging out. Make sure you have good wifi/data service and try sending messages from a different network in case it's something on your end.
- The biggest possibility is someone hacked your account somehow and is messing with your messages. You gotta change your password ASAP just to be safe, like yesterday. Especially check the "where you're logged in" section to see any unfamiliar devices.
I'd try the tech fixes first before freaking out too much. But definitely secure your account pronto, and maybe even hit up Facebook support to see if they've heard of anything similar happening to others before. Better safe than sorry with that hacker possibility! Let me know if changing passwords fixes it or if the weirdness keeps up.
No it sends it back immediately. Does it maybe half the time I think. The person I messaged responded back a few days later, so it went through
Ah I see, dude that is super weird then! If it's only happening sometimes and the messages are actually going through too, then it definitely doesn't seem like a typical glitch. A few other thoughts on what could be causing it:
- Is anyone else able to access your phone? Maybe a sibling or friend is pranking you by setting up some kind of auto-reply so it echoes back. I'd check the device settings just in case.
- Could your messages be getting caught in a weird server lag sometimes? Like a temporary hiccup is duplicating the send receipt.
- Are you using any shady apps that could have suspicious permissions? Maybe an app is intercepting messages for some reason.
- Do you get those echo messages more when your signal strength is low or the connection unstable? Could potentially be a intermittent network issue.
If it keeps happening randomly, I'd try force-closing all open apps when it occurs, then re-opening Messenger. Might help isolate if another running process is interfering. Otherwise you could always message the person and ask them directly if they ever see duplicates come through.
Hope you figure it out man, that'd drive me bonkers not knowing what's up! Let me know if anything helps track it down.
It means that technology can very much be a joke, so enjoy the laughter when it's still possible 😆
I mean bugs like this are hilarious ! Imagine god sending back your own prayer to you, this is massively cheeky. Symbolically speaking. Well, we will stop laughing when such a bug will affect homing missiles though. Oops.
Well, I wonder if the message even went through
It's easy to test this assumption, just resend, or use another network to resend
It is just a glitch.
