But most stores will not buy the latest and greatest models to retail, as there is little profit in it. They want to sell what there is a market for, not to look "cool".

For example, if it's a student town, then there is little profit in luxury laptop models. They will sell more mid range, repairable models instead.

They are old when a new component is significantly better so usualy 5 months later.

But it should work fine for a year. Then slow down , so need to clear cache and defrag more.

By 3rd year too slow, so replace if you can afford.

Yes, just buy a used laptop unless you want it for gaming and must have the very latest graphical processor.

Of course it's going to be worth less after you brought it home than it was worth new in the store. But there is a resale market for used laptops.
