Are you proud of yourself when you figure something out on your own?

Currently patting myself on the back. My PC randomly died on me, wouldn't turn on, couldn't figure it out. Called up my friend who built it for me and he just blamed me playing stupid games and downloading mods 😭 it's only recently been fixed with a new motherboard, CPU and graphics card.

I told him the CPU light was on, he said he'll have to come over and pull it apart to see what's wrong.

I did some googling in the meantime, found people who had the same issue. One said removing a ram stick worked on theirs so I was like okay well that's an easy test. I removed one and turned it on... Nothing... Ok.. turn it off, put that one back in and took the other out... It boots!

So I just need to buy a new stick of ram 🤗

Yes, I take great pride in figuring things out and fixing things myself. I almost never have to hire anyone to do those things because I have a lifetime of mechanical and electronics experience.

I really enjoy solving problems around the house. And when there is something I don't know I really enjoy researching it and learning something then applying it to the situation.

Typically the only time I ever need to hire someone is if the job requires specialized tools that are rarely needed. In those cases it doesn't pay for me to buy the tools. I have pretty much every tool you could possibly need for most work having inherited my father's tool collection which is gigantic. He also enjoyed doing the work himself whenever he could.

I think my mechanical ability comes from his father who was an inventor of mechanical machines and weapons for the military.

But I also have formal college training in electrical engineering and electronics and computers have been a hobby since I was a child.

Probably No but maybe for something really complex that usually takes an expert to do maybe. I don't feel proud typically in this situation because that is something we should be able to as adults. Of course not everything but I believe most people don't try hard enough and expect things to be spoonfed to them. If not they "can't learn". I will spend hours trying to figure out something new before asking for help. If I can't say I tried researching, using known resources like the freaking internet it YouTube then, I'm being lazy. That said we all need help at times and if I've really tried figuring something out and can't I'll ask for help.

I am really glad that for you it worked. Last time I did that for my PC, when I removed the RAM and tried that technique it failed and I wasn't able to pinpoint what exactly the issue was. I have kept my old pc even though I bought another, but I delay fixing it lol. I also don't want someone else to fix it for me because I am paranoid about privacy issues and security, therefore I have to fix it on my own

Your Ram Isn't Probably gone bad..

If you PC was BEEPING or Blinking power Light but not turning on. That means ram connection is Corroded..

RAM usually don't go bad, Especially not in PC That us stationary..

You must have a Eraser , The kind of raser that you use to rub of Stuff written by Pencils when you were a kid.

Take that Eraser and Gently Rub on the Golden teeths part of Ram. The part of Ram that is connected to MotherBoard.

Clean the corrosion in that part take 5 minutes , clean both side.. Then Wipe the rams Teeth that you cleaned with a soft cloth and put the Ram back in the PC, from where you plucked it..

If the RAM isn't Damage a little cleaning will Fix it!.

Also Use your Phone's Macros Camera to look for corrosion Spots in The Motherboard.
Sometimes RAM is Good but Motherboard RAM socket Gets corroded, Clean that too with a Dry Toothbrush Gently or a cloth!..

My story

I have had many such Moment, at one point my Laptop was heating up because it was a refurbished laptop and already worked 4 years.. It's Fan has slowed Down.. I performed diagnosis..

Purchased a New Fan Matching the one inside..

The order said 2 piece but they only sent 1 I was robbed.. alos the one piece they sent has the Socket wire broken, it was a defected piece.

But I connected the Wire and Tested the fan was running, so I took my dad's old soldering Rod.. soldered the fan made it functional..

Than replaced the fan with the New one, Laptops Heating issue was Gone, I was 24 when I did it, and that laptop ran good for 2 more years..

It's a brand new motherboard so very unlikely it's corroded. The PC was turning "on" as in power was going to it, graphics card lights were on and fans were spinning , but it was not displaying anything. The CPU light on the motherboard was on...
Ram is pretty inexpensive and I can probably get some free, probably due for a little upgrade anyway

Yep, I've noticed for the most part with PCs you basically always reach a point you gotta figure it out yourself, you search online, doesn't work then you create an idea and end up fixing it yourself.

My desktop works fine but for windows 10 they are about to stop doing updates since wi dows 11 is out. Mine won’t run 11 so I have to upgrade or buy a new one.
