Or they don't mind having their private phone calls, text messages, and home addresses being sold over the internet by big tech companies and data brokers because they don't have anything to hide?
I don't think they care tbh.

You took the words right out of my mouth.
And I saw that video. I immediately recognized it in your question thumbnail.
But to answer your question: Not nearly enough people start caring. In fact, they still don't.
The commoners have said it themselves "i don't care about privacy/data collection/that they know what type of porn i watch" and the tech giants heard that. Surprise, surprise, intrusive spying is almost everywhere WITH and WITHOUT CONSENT. Microsoft stepped it way up with Windows 11.
HOWEVER there is a real market for people like you and me. We can take back our privacy and protect it by jumping from tech giants to the user privacy respecting equivalents, that work just as good if not even better.
There is so much we can do to stay under the radar and revert to pretty much the same as in the very early days of the internet, when data collection was limited to user account + password only.
Do you know the youtuber TheHatedOne? He's a privacy anti-mass-surveillance guru and his content is educational with step-for-step guides.
Yeah I've seen TheHateOne he's good. And the other thing is when you talk about privacy to people they automatically assume that you're talking about anonymity, like you're a mob boss or a drug dealer. Or that you're doing something criminal. They don't understand privacy and anonymity or two different things. You don't have to be a digital nomad. Just give a fuck about your privacy you don't have to go off the grind.
You go into a bathroom and shut the door when you take a shower or do your business because you want privacy. Or you have sex at home where no one can see not in public. I know what you mean about the windows I have to use the Windows 11 from Europe because that is the only version that lets me uninstall edge and the bloatware.
And these people also take their phones (being connected to everything and not covering the camera) with them to the bathroom.
People just started to get on social media bandwagon when it first emerged. Have they ever asked themselves "why" and "what for" and "do i want others to know about my private life"? I sure did.
I too got hostile looks or looks, that one would give to someone, thinking about calling the cops on or as a potential murderer.
Currently I am on a castrated version of Windows 10, that I haven't updated in many years and blocked traffic and services to phone back to Microsoft using 3rd party community tools.
Starting next week I'll install Arch Linux.
No, as few have any real concept of it online.
If random officers were just trapezing through your house at any hour, then you would be pissed and in a rage. You wouldn't care that they are "law officers" or you have "nothing to hide". You do not allow random people into your private business, else you risk them taking over and making it a "norm". Or getting yourself into situations they have no business being in.
Online is no different, but people just cannot fathom it.

I have a very small footprint on the internet. i do not bank online or pay bills online. I have direct deposit because my employer requires it. I do not have an easy pass and pay cash for most things. I keep a trash email account that I use that is untraceable.
I really don’t because I never put anything that’s potentially negative about me or what is in my life on the internet. So basically I’m my own safety net while I’m on the net. It’s kinda like locking my own front door to my home. I don’t count on someone else doing it for me.
There was a time when everyone's phone number, name, and address was in the phone book.
No one felt insecure enough to worry about it because honesty was the norm at that time.
I think it's ironic that anybody would give a shit about this seeing how they post their entire lives all over social media
I don’t care what facebook does. Or what ever. I don’t need no privacy. But fkn rats for doing it tbh
Yeah, but as Carly Simon sang in the early 70's,"It's Too Late."
Social media in general is just horrible!
