I'm kinda surprised that laptop and smart phone are co-favorites, leading the voting. Especially considering the number of people one sees walking down the street with a smart phone attached to their ear, or talking/texting while they drive.

I have a desktop PC (that I built myself from carefully selected parts) that is running a 40" graphics monitor and a mechanical keyboard. I hate laptops because the keyboard is uncomfortable for me, and the screens are just too small to be usable - at least for me.

@denzooo9 Thanks! This is not as difficult as it might seem. All that is needed is a systematic approach to the project, like this:

1. Decide what you want to use the machine for, like gaming, school work, business, video conferencing, video editing, etc., or perhaps a combination of things.

2. Decide what your budget for this project is.

3. Based on what you want it to do, and how much you want to spend, select the parts that you need for this project - case, processor, memory, storage, video card, cooling solution, motherboard, monitor, etc. You need to have or acquire a clear understanding of what these and other components are and their importance in achieving your goals for this project. When you have a list of parts, for the first time, show it to another knowledgable person and get feedback on your selections. When you are satisfied that you have considered everything, buy the parts.

4. When you get ALL the parts, it is time to assemble your machine. This may seem like the most difficult part, but it is really the easiest. You should consult a guide on how to do this or get some help the first time.

If you don't want to take the time to assemble the machine yourself, hire another person to do this using the parts you've purchased. I have done this myself when I have literally not had time to assemble the machine myself. This is not expensive.

5. Enjoy your new computer! Doing it this way will NOT save you money, but you will get exactly what you want for your needs, and you will learn quite a bit in the process.

I use a desk phone 5 days a week but a cell phone 7 days a week. I also use my laptop 7 days per week and more hours per day than my cell. I don't text excessively and I prefer browsing on the larger screen of my laptop (I have four laptops.)

@denzooo9 I have an old laptop which still works but it is missing keys and the battery doesn't hold a good charge. I have the laptop I am using at the moment, which I use for my personal browsing. I also have a laptop which I use strictly for my own practice. Then, I have a laptop which someone else supplies to me to use for their business. I bought the seind and third laptops used, for $50 and $200, both excellent deals I couldn't pass by.

My employer has laptops for everyone. We had 15 employees and then we downsized to 7, so he decided to sell the laptops to employees if they wanted one.
